I guess I'm one of the few that thinks the PS3 will do very well in Japan. PS2 made a lot of friends last generation so I think those people will give the PS3 the benefit of the doubt that the PS3 will have a long life in Japan. I also think most Japanese people are believers in Blu-ray. The real question is how profitable is the PS3 for Sony with all these price cuts.

PS3 always gets a shot-lived boost after introducing a new SKU. I don't think it will have any long-term impact.
sick of these threads but i'll reply anyway, strong years from the Wii and 360 have forced the PS3 to reduce it's price so much. When was the last time that happened in a consoles first 12 months?
Id doesn't bode well - as the Wii is still selling on original model and price if you like (just wait until you can get a red Wii with 2 controllers bundled in for cheaper in 2009). The PS3 will have a decent place this generation as the Playstation brand symbolisies so many big diverse game titles but people have to accept the casual market they had sown up with the PS2 now has a new home and all of the Singstars, Eyetoys in the world aren't gonna change that.

Well, gaining marketshare is not that hard when you only have 17% marketshare. As long as your sales are above 17% your marketshare will go up. 360 and Wii need to keep selling at 40% and 43% to keep their marketshare.
Will the Playstation 3 dominate the Wii?
It depends how high you drop it from.

I'm sure this has been said but I'll say it again, with a recent price drop and introduction of a new color, if it didn't outsell the 1 year old, still the same, wii in the short term they should be embarrassed. Look at the PSP slim vs Ds lite for examples.

How odd!, i could have sworn the Wii has sold 2.5 million since the PS3 was at 5 million, wheras the PS3 hasn't managed 1.5 million
