Boycott EA!!

I really want GameStop to suffer some and force them to actually price their used games properly instead of buying them from someone for $5 then reselling it for $45. That used game should have been like $20 tops on resale. not $45.
if a used game sells for $20, how much do you think they will buy them back for? they have to buy it for an amount that allows an acceptable profit margin that offsets the loss of money on games that are bought back and then don't sell. that's basic business 101. the lower the sales price, the lower the buy back price. now, I'm okay with that. I don't sell games back so I don't care if you want to sell a game back for only $10 so I can buy it for $20, but I am sure thaht isn't what you had in mind, which makes you completely unqualified to comment on the used game market and its pricing. |
i know business and GameStop truly sucks at it. I support the retailer Play`n`Trade because they dont screw their customers. They actually pay you a decent amount for games. GameStop offered me $3 for COD3, Play`n`Trade gave me $8. So who would have screwed me, a customer, there? And Play`n`Trade put it on their shelf for $15. GameStop had a copy on their shelf for $24. Also Play`n`Trade buys and sells classic games too. I could rebuy a Dreamcast from the and multiple titles. They even have a sealed copy of Chrono Cross, for $250, in their case.
So its all about who screws over the customer. Its very obvious GameStop does. So if their drives down their prices on used games so be it. They can actually compete with good used game retailers with proper pricing.

I support the idea and EA has been one of the best Third Party developers this gen, they've pushed so many titles that I've enjoyed that I'd find it hard not to buy the next Dead Space, Mirror's Edge, Battlefield: Bad Company, Saboteur or any good sport game.
Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.
Dude its not a big deal, I actually support it (even though I currently buy about half my games used). Here's how it breaks down:
Game Stores: Lose big time, because used game sales are a huge part of their profit.
Consumers: Lose, because we have to pay an extra $5-$10 (or slightly more) to buy the game new instead of used
Developers/Publishers: Win because they make the money that they would normally lose on each used game sale.
So yeah consumers get screwed out of a few extra bucks but guess what? By buying new we're supporting the developers we like and by giving them extra money it means they will be more willing to make both sequels and new IP's since they can make more money. I support this fully. I would also support digital distribution because that would eliminate the used game market. "Oh but with digital distribution we can't return games when we finish them", well fear not because hopefully we can rent games via download and that money will be split up between the dev/publisher and the console company.

I think that is what they are trying to do with this.

Any bets on how long EA will keep the online up for this game? Maybe a year or perhaps two at best? |
Why are you against that though?
I mean think about it... where do those $55 dollar used games come from? It's not like gamestop magically conjures them from the ether.
If there are a bunch of $55 dollar used games out the first week a product is out... it's for 1 of 2 reasons.
A) A bunch of people who bought it.... didn't like it, and therefore sold it back and got like half their money back (if not more.)
B) The game had such poor replay value that the person who bought it was done with it in a couple of days and god back half their money.
Those $55 dollar games are for the benefit of people who buy games they don't like.
This is a pure trojan move though starting with sports games... and it's smart, because nobody gives a damn about sports games... I imagine the used market is way lower on them then other games anyway.

You do realize this move also screws Play' N Trade right...

I don't buy used games, so I don't care what they do, now UBISOFT's ridiculous DRM on PC is another story....

Why do you think there is an online pass you have to REBUY if you buy used. Common sense?

not really siince if GameStop refuses to lower so they can continue screwing their customers like they always do with their used game pricing. Say we take something like a used copy of Madden 11 PSP needs an unlock code. Play`n`trade's price is $15 and GameStop's used price is $20. The unlock costs $10. So at GameStop purchasers still pay more meaning smarter shoppers go to Play`n`Trade to get the games that require online keys because they have the better deals.
Devs win by making money off the used game market, Play`n`Trade wins because they got a new customer, GameStop loses sales due to their piss poor used game model. I see nothing but win, win, win there.
