It's a problem for some people because "emulator" has turned into a dirty word among "hardcore gamers". There is nothing illegal about emulators themselves. Commercial emulator developers have been sued before and the cases were thrown out of court because they aren't illegal. If disolitude uses his GameCube/Wii emulator to play legitimate copies of Gamecube and Wii games, he is not doing anything illegal. Even if he made his own ISO copy of his Gamecube and Wii games, he wouldn't be doing anything illegal. It's illegal to use ISOs you didn't make yourself (ie. downloading them from the internet) from your own game discs and it's illegal to hack out/patch out copy protection (DMCA Act rule) but not to copy your own software for personal use.

It's funny. Almost everyone uses portable audio devices for illcit purposes (mainly playing MP3s they downloaded off the internet through illicit channels) but yet no one gives you a dirty look if you talk about your portable audio player.

While I agree that its morally wrong to blatantly pirate games and enjoy them, it being "illegal" depends where you live and what kind of laws the country has. Canada has absolutely no copywright laws for using P2P to download games. Nada.

Gaming industry has been pushing the governemnt for 2 years now but there isn't a law made which resticts anyone from using P2P software to download an ISO, even if one doesn't own it.

Also, its not illegal to download P2P music here - http://news.cnet.com/2100-1025_3-5121479.html

I have to pay a 25 dollar premium on an ipod tho.

As far as me downloading ISO's, I own Maramusa original as well as 8 other wii games... but I have tried out games which I don't own using the emulator. Sin and punishment 2 and Red Steel 2 come to mind recently. Sin an punishment 2 will be purchased day 1 when it comes out in Canada (June 27)...Red Steel 2 was deleted off my hard drive after 30 minutes of play and will never be played again.

Bottom line is...when it comes to emulators, roms and ISO's...if I enjoy it, I pay for it. If it sucks, I try and move on. I do not have any moral problems doing this procedure what so ever.

Didn't the Conservative Party change the laws here in Canada to make them more like America's DMCA? I could have sworn the bill was passed already.

I honestly don't know if they did. If they did, it may have been recent. I know there is a lot of pressure lately that is being put on people who are uploading music, software, movies and cracking the digital security of these products. But I don't think they are going after the end user that download yet...

I know for sure that for videogames, they do not have any copywright laws.

I know someone here in Canada that was warned by their ISP for downloading a videogame off a torrent site (the person's Wi-Fi was unsecured and someone else downloaded the game piggybacking off their Wi-Fi). Though I guess that's a contract law issue, not a criminal law issue. I'd imagine that Rogers, Bell, etc. reserve the right to cancel your internet service subscription anytime they want (seeing as how the consumer is able to do the same thing).

Yeah that would make sense. I've heard of stories from freinds about their internet being cancelled after they downlaod some large HBO series torrent or movie collection. lol

So, something happened that hasnt happened in a long time: I played this game more than 15 hours now and have finished the storyline for both characters, although only first ending.

I actually intend to play it even more to see all endings and get all swords.

I still really enjoy the game and think it was one of the best games I played in the last years. Definitely my type of game.

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

@darkghostboy: funny enough, LKS is next on my list of games to play. I actually got it same time like Muramasa, but I think I will enjoy Muramasa more - just less thinking I need to do and more beat em up.

Still, looking forward to it.

Vanillaware did a great job imo. Some clone blades but the boss battles were epic. Good music too.
