so because there is stock in one of the most friendlist 360 countries(apart from the us) == no shortage wrldwide!!??
fact is there are shortages but only in the US, we are all sick of this debate, and at this rate people will create a whole new record for the amount of time being in constant denial

Or sony will win the award for most incompetent supply chain...  modest sales for 5 months in the US now and still slow supply apparently, all the while Europe and Japan are awash with PS3's

can you explain that?

i just know i'll get banned if i even bother to reply to that question seriously

why? thats ridiculous. so presumably what you are saying is that actually the PS3 is selling more than the wii in the US?  yeah... ok.

Underestimated demand is part of the problem, and they had probably calculated it better for Europe.

Add to that that the PS3 is far closer to profitability (or above it, who knows) in Europe because of the stronger euro, then why wouldn't they wait until the cheaper version comes to the US and then try to build it up again there, while keeping their strongest region supplied anyway...

(i'm not saying that it's the only reason, but sony wouldn't ignore the fact that it's probably smarter to keep their best region flooded and the 'lost' region a bit in the dark)

LOL... well that could backfire

the Euro just hit a six year low against the Yen.   oops.

Yeah right I think you are just spinning this to your favour the new SCU which is even cheaper to make they will make more profit from, hopefully this will counter any more falls.

And I think you know nothing of business, supply and economics.

A company will set up its coming year business plan, profitability and forecasts based on a currency exchange rate band.  In 2010 most Japanese companies were working on a range of 125 to 130  for european exports this year...  its now below 110.  That wipes out profits in a company where the profit margin is in single digit percentage figures.  Does any of that actually compute with you?

Where a 250euro PS3 was the equivalent of 33,750 yen 8 months ago... that is now 27,500 yen... a fall of about 18%, thats big.

PS3 is supply constrained in Europe due to Sony losing money on PS3 sales due to foreign exchange rate losses. Sony is a Japanese company and the 20% less Yen per PS3 sold would hurt Sony's bottom line. The Euro's value is expected to fall lower in regards to the Yen. The failing Euro nations is crippling the Euro and is adversely impacting on foreign exchange rates.

I don't go around stores looking for PS3 shortages. Why should one care if they already have a PS3? ;)

Apparently there are a few people on this site who do care. They own PS3s and they will go around from store to store checking stock levels,  look on sites to see how many PS3s are in stock or search for articles about PS3 shortages. MikeB and leo-j stand out as two guys who really care about PS3 shortages- lots of articles reporting shortages and even photographic proof of sold out signs in stores. Would take a lot of time and effort. Dedicated PS3 fans and they care a lot about the PS3 shortages and the accuracy of the sales on this site.

Of course it makes sense to me, and I'm becoming tired of your shallow attempt's to insult me, I think from now on you can consider yourself on my ignore list, I was just simply discussing what might be the reason for shortages, wheras you seem to think you know it all, so stop being a sexisit a******e.

Finally about your other statement about meeting supply in the US, I seriously think they are more bothered about making a profit, and no matter what they say about trying to meet demand, I really do think it's more of a case of having more supply where they can make more money(at the moment), just to make a profit for this year, considering I know nothing I guess my opinion means nothing to you:P:P

it's the future of handheld

The official Vita thread http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=130023&page=1

So I'm just curious, just how long are these PS3 shortages going to last? I mean, it's almost JUNE now. If Sony can't provide enough PS3s in America in the slowest months of summer, how in the blue hell are they going to provide enough to meet demand during the holidays? Sony may be in some big trouble if they don't pick up the slack soon.. 45,000-55,000 a week in gaming's biggest market simply is not going to cut it.

I can buy 20 PS3s from one Media Markt in Germany. Send me the money and I will to prove it.

A. Who claimed Germany had shortages?

B. Just because you can buy them doesn't mean there aren't shortages.

GameStop is in the US. In the US, supply is tight.

Damn you are sensitive these days.

The OP asked:

So to get a better picture of it what is it like in your area? Are you seeing none in your stores?

and

what is it like where you are?

I just answered to the OP.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

scotland, very low.

In Australia we've had no shortages of any console in over a year. Last time was in 08 before Christmas when there were wii shortages.

There seem to be many people in this thread trying to claim or hint that because there are no shortages where they live that the shortages in America are bogus even if they happen to live in Europe and elsewhere. Then when they are reminded of that fact they try and shield themselves by saying they are just replying to the OP and that PS3 fans shouldn't be so defensive.

Most of these same people are fans of another console which I will not name. I would have thought they would be happy the PS3 is not selling as much as it would if there were no shortages.

Just be happy that all consoles are doing fairly well.

Sony is stock piling PS3s ahead of the move launch. They are hoping that the move will move a lot of PS3s.

I need some hiking boots and a backpack to climb the mountains of systems in my area, if anyone needs one give me a call.
