Forums - General - The UK has so many great artists...

None of the western European nations take Eurovision serious, it's a contest to see who can sent in the most mentally deranged lunatic posing as an artist.

It is disappointing after the excellence of our 2009 entry to see such a poor showing this year. The UK music industry and a large part of the UK public have an awful attitude to Eurovision as do some of the bigger western-European countries (looking at you Spain, Germany, France). I can understand why as in the past several years the quality of the music went down alot and the voting became unbearably political and neighborly. Still, it is entertaining and fun to watch. The stages are always awesome, the costumes and pyrotechnics add to the spectacle and its a great way to see other european music, instruments, dress, style, culture etc. This post turned into quite a ramble.

What alot of people don't seem to realize is how professionally other countries take it. Usually they send in professional performers - granted recent years they have done some silly things. Especially in 2008. However the 2009 contest was awesome - virtually unrecognizable from 2008 (as well as some of the previous contest's in the 00's) such was the improvement in professionalism and music quality. The re-introduction of the jury also heavily reduced the effect of political/neighboring voting of recent times. I hope the more cynical of you will give the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 a chance this year.

Where do you think we'll place this year?

haha thank god they won't compete at Eurovision

If we sent our worst we would send the Sugababes.
When we do try like last year we can't win because of the biased voting.
Personally I love the Euros. So cheesy, crap and fixed.
Love it.

I'm wondering where is it shown outside of Europe? Anyone here from Asia South and North America get to see it?

Its the eurovision... what do you expect? its a running joke...

Just for a laugh it would be good if we sent someone like Coldplay, Noel Gallagher or Radiohead...  of course we would still lose.. because the voting is corrupt and political, plus most of Europe are jealo.... er.. hate us.

Everybody hates Britain?

Not even close to how many European countries seem to hate Belgium with a passion. All our neighbours seem to hate us like the Netherlands, Great Britain, and France(meh who cares, nobody likes them anyway)

You're right about everything else however.

Belgian television presenters of Eurosong were totally ripping on you guys however. But the British song was really really bad.

oh noes our tactic failed this year. We accidentally won :(
