when the japanese are doing localization for a western game in japan they showed respect towards that work by doing a good job.

that voice acting sounds really good =)

when western is supposed to do localizations for japanese games they can be either good or show how much lack of respect they have for other peoples work by doing a crappy job.

What ? Japanese respect the western game ? The japanese have awful prejudice for western and they got a word to describe and discriminate western game.

Haha, looks like this is not really KAWAII NO DESU! Awesome, where did you found that?!

they are talking about retail

the japanese audience is also prejudiced against western games

u didnt get what i said did u?

i said people who WORK on localizationtake pride in their work and do a good job (thats respectful towards the western company that made the game, so they dont have a joke of a japanese version on the market). thats the way i see it.

also a lot of  western "professional" voice actors who dont seem to know what they are doing or just dont understand the market they are working in, some japanese games english voice overs sound like the crappy voice overs from cartoons i'd watch when i was 4 or 5. thats just lousy work.

Do you have any proof of sources? That's your opinion and guess.

For the voices, japanese one are bad IMO. I prefer cartoon english voices to screaming little japanese boys. They just scream. Like I said, you lived in a place where you talk english and ear english all the time. When you ear japanese, you can't ear the voices defaults because you can't speak japanese. Or maybe you are from the bunch of people who learned japanese to play games and watch anime O.o I hope not.

i didnt learn japanese. my vocabulary is limited to a couple of words and expressions, havent watched anime since my teens ( feeling old now)

i do like to watch japanese movies (shinobi, battle royale, ichi, etc) and jdramas. japanese actors and voice actors are good and tend to be perfectionists.

though there are good western voice actors, they are a rare species, but i do apreciate and enjoy it when its a work well done and adds value to the game.

and I'm Portuguese.

i appreciate music and movies and entertainment in lots of languages, i dont need to understand the language to see when acting is half assed, you need to just be a bit familiar with the culture itself. that comes from observing.

Haha nice

O.o ok so if you don't know the language, but you observe, you can ear if the voice is good? Weird, I guess you have super ears. IMO Western voices are the best because of the accents. I talk French and English (I'm from Canada/Québec, so I need to learn both) and I noticed that English language can have all accents (just watch english version of hellsing and you'll have British, French and German accent), but in Japanese, there is no accent, which is sad because all characters sound the same. The only good japanese voice I heard is from Touhou Innocent Key (the voice of Remilia). BTW Can you explain me how the culture help with the distinction of good voice actors and bad voice actors?

they actually have regional accents that u cant tell unless they mention it to u in some behind the scenees and then u start to pay attention to it. (Rogue Galaxy as an example)

acting is about transmiting expressing a reaction or feeling, if its good it will look real. u also have to take in consideration the culture and the posture that different people will have based on society, demographics, etc.

if u cant be that observant i dont know what to say to you. i know u speak french in Quebec, my boyfriend is from there, i also know most people there dont speak english and i know that you dub the movies to french.

culture and the ambiance u grow up in does affect a person's posture and the way they express themselves, it's how u can tell japanese characters from western ones. cultural differences.... try to be more open minded about that. everyone has deifferent backgrounds, u live in a big country, people from quebec have a different posture from people from ontario. i know people from both, i know people from argentina, eastern europe, brazil, china... not from the internet, personally. people who grew up elsewhere. they are all completely different in the way they act, talk, react.

but what do i know...

If you can determine a good acting voice from a bad one (even if you don't understand the language) by looking at someone's life style, your damn good mah boi !

but what do i know...

First: It's really bad when you can't tell if the character have an accent until the game tells you he have one.

Second: I acting is baout feelings and all, but the society and culture doesn't change anything in voice acting. If a guy is playing a american business man, he could make a japanese business man too. The personality of the character doesn't change because of the race and culture. They will react the same. If they are sad, happy, shocked, angry, etc. They will act the same way because they have the same personality! If you were Spanish (same family, same friends, everything is the same), you'll be the same person.

Third: In Québec, we talk French, but almost everybody knows English. Why? Because we saw it everywhere. On TV (some shows are only in english), the sings are bilingual and we have English since pre school (11 years of english at school). Plus, alot of jobs require perfect bilinguals (even gamestop employees must be bilingual).

And you say that I must open my mind? You are saying that Western voices sucks, and I say the same thing about the japanese voices. At least I hate voices from one country, you hate voices from a continent (and more)!

P.S. Québec people and Ontario people are the same, they just talk english, that's the difference.

If we are going to say the same thing over and over again, let's close this discussion.
