Of course it will reach 200$ million worldwide :/
Is there really someone thinking otherwise?
It will make money no doubt.

Conventional wisdom says the box office gross needs to be almost double the production budget for the studio to make a profit from the theatrical release. If it doesn't make that then it's reliant on DVD/BR sales and rentals to be profitable. PoP needs to make $400 million worldwide to make money.
From a box office only perspective PoP is the PS3 of VG movies: over priced (high budget), making a loss (at the box office) and reliant on peripherals to make money (DVD/BR sales & rentals, and merchandising (if there's any to be had)). Whereas other VG adaptations have been like the Wii: cheap to make and profitable because of it.
Why did they make 3 Resident Evil movies when the first 2 had mediocre box office performances and pretty crappy reviews? Because despite only doing below average at the box office the budgets were even lower so they all made a modest profit from the theatrical release and hence the DVD/BR sales were cherries on the top. Though I think Extinction was the highest budget movie so while also highest grossing worldwide may have been the least profitable.

I'm pretty sure it will reach above 350$ million.

This is my call on total gross:
In America its opening weekend will be 40% of total American gross = $75 million.
American gross will be 35% of total gross = $215 million.
15% margin for error means it could get up to nearly $250 million world wide.
2nd weekend will tell us whether it'll have unusual legs in the American market. I doubt it will though. So to make $350 million it means the non-US boxoffice would need to account for about 80% of total gross. It's a very rare Hollywood movie that makes only 20% of its box office receipts in the USA.
I think Disney will break even with DVD sales. But we won't be seeing a PoP 2.

I use to like Jake when he was slim and toned, not he's yuk, all buff and conformed.
@binary solo: According to boxofficemojo POP is now already at $133 million worldwide. I think Boutros is right with his >$350 million prediction, just like some weeks ago when he said in his thread about Alice in Wonderland that it will be a huge success and might beat Dark Knight and several people answered him it won't have good legs or it won't reach $500 million worldwide. AiW meanwhile crossed $1.06 billion and surpassed Dark Knight's ww boxoffice.

Firstly in quite a few markets PoP has had 2 weekends in theatres. If $133 million was the opening weekend takings worldwide then I'd say $350 million is certain. But because the "foreign" takings associated with that $133 ($95.5 million) is over 2 weekends then the final gross would typically be somewhere South of $350 million.
Working in PoP's favour of making more than the the opening weekend results would suggest is the following quote from the NYT:
"Marketing may also have played a role. Feedback from test audiences before the film’s release was hugely positive. When turnout is poor after good test screenings, it often suggests that the public doesn’t like what it sees in the marketing materials. Disney fired its top marketing executives in a management overhaul late last year and has only recently installed a new team."
So, good feedback from test screenings might mean good legs on word of mouth despite a crapppy marketing job. One wonders whether Disney achieved anything in replacing it's marketing execs if they screwed up the marketing of such an expensive movie.
If the USA 2nd weekend drop is -20% or thereabouts then expect good legs for this movie. If it's ~40% then it's legs will be nothing special and it will follow the standards movie pattern. If the drop is >50% then it's gonna bomb hard. So all bets are off until next weekend's numbers are in.
It's doing well in China and Russia apparently, so maybe the commies will be its saviour.

You know what, I think I'll make a thread about it! It's really something big!
It was a good movie to just hang out and see with friends, it's not an award winning movie.
The princess was hot, but her voice was a little weird lol.The guy with the ostrich track was funny with his political jokes about taxes.
btw, Ben Kingsley looks the same as he did for last 20 years. How old is this guy?
