I can't tell if your joking or not.. but on a serious note, I completely forgot the game even came out. Probably the advertising.
Nope... the hype of tekken is over, just that. Street Fighter is more timeless.
I mean... everybody, gamer or not, knows what Hadouken is! Or finds Zangief amazing - just look at screwattack's videos, he makes cameos all the time there for his awesomeness.
Can we say the same for who... Nina? Paul Phoenix? Nope.
As an expert in Japanese culture, I don't think so. It's not like in America where Mortal Kombat could became successful by being an asshole.
Street Fighter has more vowels in it than Tekken. Because of this, it generates more hype.
On a serious note tho: I do not see how this could ever be the case. They are both well established franchises, and as such I do not think this is possible (it could happen with a new IP tho, in the same genre)
I got both so I'm out of this "conflict".

playing right now: Xenoblade Chronicles
Hype-o-meter, from least to most hyped: the Last Story, Twisted Metal, Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Playstation ViTA
bet with Mordred11 that Rage will look better on Xbox 360.
