Alright it seems its been a trend for along time. Whenever a first party developer reaches critical acclaim they leave their first party partners for the glory of third party. I remember back in the 90's hearing that franchises Spyro and Crash were going third party and at first my heart lept however over time I didn't like the new Spyro and Crash and I realized maybe sometimes its better for studios and franchises to remain first party.
Right now both Bungie and Insomniac are going third party. Bungie signed on with Activision to create its next franchise exclusively to Activision for a ten year period of time. Insomniac also just signed up with EAGames to bring them an exclusive new franchise that will no doubt be multiplatform. Will Bungie and Insomniacs new franchises be as good as their first party counter parts?
Should more first party studios go third party, maybe Retro will go next? Is it good for these studios? just what benefits and negatives come with ditching first parties?
Do you want more franchises and studios to go third party?
