Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is the best company in Platform games

Plain and simple...looking at the current 98 metacritic score of Super Mario Galaxy 2, and the similar score of SMG1, the amzing reviews and stuff....its fair to think that Nintendo in the King in Platform games.

What do you think? What company rivals Nintendo in this department?

Well yes, I think that is generally accepted anyway.

Platforming is only one of many genres however, and other developers are better at them.

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
I completely agree Super Mario Galaxy 2, as well as many other games made by Nintendo, are beautiful
 Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.
Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
as a guy said, everyone accepted that already
Mario is the King! Nintendo is the Kingdom!
Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.
Only Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie even approached Nintendo's quality. That's why I re-bought an N64 and both games last month. So great. Took Mario 64 and built upon it.
As for Nintendo but non-Mario, Kirby Power Paintbrush was very good.
Nintendo has always been the king of platforming.
- The 12 best selling platformers of all time are made by Nintendo. This list will just continue to grow (most likely 13 at least by SMG2)
- Over 33% of Nintendo's software sales come from platformers
- Nintendo accounts for somewhere around 2/3rds of all the platformer sales through history (73% by VGChartz data, but there's a fair bit of lacking data). They'll just increase here too.
- Mario Platformers from this generation alone is likely to sell more than any other franchise has through history, save around 5. (It's at 55 million now. 75 million seems quite likely. For a comparison, Zelda is likely to be at ~ 67 m after the Wii ends. Final Fantasy will be at 90 million ish)
Pretty much nobody sells platformers nowadays other than Nintendo, and they do it in huge, huge amounts.
yes, nintendo makes the best platformers, but like radishhead said, it's just one genre. capcom makes the best fighters, infinity ward makes the best shooters, etc.
The DK Country games too aimed for N-quality.
Conker Bad Fur Day was actually the beginning of Rare's fall from grace. Even though Banjo Nuts And Bolts is great, it's definately not in the same league as the others.
