How should I begin life as a Final Fantasy player?

It's obvious!1! FFVII 23 41.07%

Forget FFVII, FFVIII FTW! 11 19.64%

leave the past in the past go with FFXIII 12 21.43%

Look to the future: FFvsXIII 3 5.36%

By all that is holy stay ... 7 12.50%

Total:56

Stay away from FF games released after 2001 until you play those before it first beacuse then you won't be blinded by "pretty graphics".

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

Final Fantasy 13 was my first one (2 months ago) & now its one of my all time favourite games, it just blew me away in every way. I'd definitely say start off with it like I did then work your way down like I'm doing.

After playing FF13 I decided to try FF12 which left me slightly disappointed but it was still a good game, I have started FFX now but the battle system isn't as fun as FF13's although the music is better thus far. Its your choice in the end but theres a new one out, its targeted towards newcomers in many ways so give it a go, if you don't like the past ones aren't exactly the same as it (from what I've played) so you can still try out older ones.

It's really hard to recommend a game from the series without knowing what JRPGs you like. Since each game is different.

since u have a ds and a ps3 i would say ffiv for ds and ffvii, ffviii and ffix (when it comes out) on psn

Go with FFIX: the best FF since FFVI.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I am NOT going to play FF on a handheld. Handheld gaming is not my thing.

In case you're wondering the DS's belong to my sons and I've played a few minutes of a couple of games. But they're in the house and I [partly] paid for the things. Though Spirit tracks looks like fun.
