Forums - Sales - Reasons for the slow sales of Alan Wake?

Red Dead has had a huge TV campaign. I have seen their ads all over Spike TV and other stations since (I think) about 2 weeks before release and still ongoing after release.

I have not seen any Alan Wake Ads on TV, nor have I seen any big posters/signs/whatever at stores where you might buy it (they are all RDR).

Because the game is really BAD, thats why, its real simple, all you do is run around a foggy wooded area, looking for book pages, and coffee containers, and you have the SAME enemies throwing axes at you, and you do the same old thing every time, use your flashlight then shoot them, the game is so repedative and boaring, 6 years in development, has to be the all time biggest disapointment. I wasted 60 bucks.

SMG2 and RDR overshadowed what isn't an astonishing game as some may claim, but a rather good game, as anyone can see by its metacritic score.

I think overhype and bad release date caused Alan Wake to flop.

I'm really doubting that this game can even reach half a million now.

- not exactly what gamers expected (low 80s review average, it isn't a sandbox, 540p)

I can only think about these right now.

Then I hope you bought RDR on a 360 if resolution is that important to you.

Don't be silly, resolution only matters when you can use it as a negative to something you don't like.

Of course. Sort of like the rest of his points. I seem to remember niche being a selling point for one console. How times have changed.

I don't care about anything below 720p, even Red Dead. Soon the lower limit to be 1080p if my plans to place a 47' LED on the wall of my room keep going alright.

I can only think on PIRACY, everyone is playing the game, buying it? A lot less people.

But we should wait for USA sales.

That Wii of yours must not get much play then, right?

Anyways, I wish I could really say here without getting banned how little I think of people that spout of things like the above.  You do realize that if nobody actually told you it was 540p you would never know, right?

In fact, even with something like Red Dead you would never notice unless you played the two games directly next to each other (which nobody actually does).  The people that just play the game on their PS3 still see it as an incredible looking game and it doesn't matter in the slightest that it's a slightly lower resolution.

It's a Rated M game, stop being children about everything.

No I don't play my Wii often and yes, I would notice the difference. See my edited post, plus you are not behind my eyes to know how I would perceive things.

First off, survival horror isn't that popular as a genre to begin with. With the exception of Resident Evil, the sales barrier stops at around 2.5m (I haven't checked Left4Dead in a while).

Second off, no commercials/ads.
Third, the main character looks hideous. Now, I'm not the one to call guys cute, and bald space marines don't exactly make the cover of GQ magazine, but Alan Wake just looks like a douche. I guess he does llok the part of a writer then (OW!)

Fourth, internet hype =/= sales. Every exclusive is being treated like the Second Coming of Christ when it is nowhere near that popular off of the interwebs and in the real world. AW is not a system seller despite popular internet belief.

Fifth, reviews. I'm on VGC everyday, and I don't know what type of reviews it is getting. Is it even out in America???!? Even if I did know what scores AW was getting, I personally am not interested.

and Sixth? Alone In The Dark
