Forums - Gaming - Natal vs. Move:The game of Smoke and Mirrors

Just because we are not smart enough to imagine how natal games would be, doesn't give us the right to claim that it's gonna meh.

Around the Network

Just wait for E3 and ppl will really see what natal is going to do for them. They will see that not one hardcore game can be use with it intelligently and the causal market will have the same games over and over again but worst then the wii. Even some causal games use buttons and i like how all xbox fans are going crazy over being able to use voice recognition and head tracking. We will see.

that is absolute poppycock. and you know it...lol

yea i know your trying to be funny, well your not trying you are being funny. but you and I both know that is pure pubbish because if anything Sony's software this generation has been top notch. The same With Microsoft's own releases.

so for saying Microsoft's software is somehow more complicated than Sony's is kind of "well we use multi core processor development" and the way we program Multi-core development is more complicated than the other system. Even though the other system is also Multi-core processor development!

Lol, I was talking about back end software not the actual game software!

lol even backend..the tool's for MOVE is pretty extensive.

Not the tool - the actual algorithms.  NATAL is a neuro-network based simulution and prediction algorithm for human movement layered on top of a 3D spatial detection mechanism.  Move is a straightforward bit of tracking code at its core.  Given the concept, most CS professionals could probably write code to accomplish the same thing as Move.  NATAL - not so much.

that will still be done on the xbox360's end not the camera's end for the processing, so it would be the same if sony used the same camera on the PS3. now not saying the Natal camera is not advanced or anything like that it's the algorithms are still on the processor level.

yes they could but the problem it still would not be as accurate not have the button interface as what both the Wii and the PS3 offer unless Microsoft's going to combine the xbox360 controller with Natal for Game's.

Now though Outside of just game's Natal is pretty intriging as a control interface which is why i am very excited for Natal.

Are you intentionally being obtuse?  no flaming just a question, because your responses in the thread seem to intentionally misinterpret or misunderstand other people comments.  I posted the very definition of more complicated software and you talked about something different.  Then in a reply to Squil you again made a comment that was not relevant to the thread at hand with regard to number of people.  There Squil explicitly excluded game developers and then you cited game developers.

and the OP's thread was about that..what squil brought in was an opinion on the development of both technology's of how each party which he was trying to say that Microsoft's development software was more complicated than sony's for development which while is his opinion , is just that an opinion its ok to have an opinion. that still does not take away from the fact that we know.

the processes are done on the xbox360 not Natal, so your :

"NATAL is a neuro-network based simulution and prediction algorithm for human movement layered on top of a 3D spatial detection mechanism."

is still performed on the xbox360's precessor not on Natal itself, thus it's not an issue for Natal but on the same token that's nothing anything that Sony is not doing with the PS3 and it's development for processing algorithm's on the Cell processor. both have to program those chip's

thay may use many seperate API's but they still have to go about programming those to do what they need them to do, saying one software company produces more complicated software over the other is just his opinion.

that still does not make it a fact, which was what he was putting out in this thread.

I would think Natal software has to be more complicated than Move as Move has something very reliable to track. Yet at the same time Natal software can't be too complicated or it will take too much time to process.

those chip's have to be programmed. just because you are only tracking one object does not mean other thing's that are going into the same software would not be complicated.

that's trying to generalize every thing that goes into s a software program, and that i think is very wrong.

taking into account one thing but not the other's is glossing over what the software does on a whole. like i said I am not taking anything away from the point of Natal being more advanced than the eyetoy because it is. what I am disagreeing with is the idea that the software is more complicated over the other because we have no idea what each program's are for each of the system's will employ. one of each may be more complicated than the other on any givin software we do not know.

Natal and Wii are NOT proven at this point.  To understand this, calculate the total cost of getting Move, compared to what you spend on the Wii, and then see if people would be willing to pay that.  Factor in also the cost of a PS3.  Maybe the controls work, but proven as far as sales go, it isn't.  As far as Natal goes, it is even LESS proven, but apparently Microsoft was able to generate a buzz about a game with no controls being real cool.

This is the case of that which is not known generating more interest than the familiar.  People are watching Natal to see if motion-control becomes all that.  With Move, it what the Wii does, but at a higher price point.  Maybe it does it better, but it looks like what has been seen before, and thus not as newsworthy.

Check the video above. Wii-mote doesn't act like a 3D mouse like Move.  Natal is suppose to do what Move does (interface) but without the controller. Move has more in common with Natal than Wii-mote.

Understandable. Yet when I think about the Natal all I think about is the Move TVSpot with Kevin Butler and how true it is about the Natal. I can't see me having that much fun with it at all. Can you?

Actually, I can, in theory.  The problem I have with Natal is that we haven't seen any of its software, so it's hard to say what they're going to do with it.  For now, put me in the "skeptical" category, but not the "dismissive" one.

Natal and Move having one feature (sort of) in common that the Wiimote (sort of) doesn't does not mean that the two have more in common with each other than the Wiimote.  Move is basically a modified Motion+: it's essentially powered by the same technology which is produced by the same company.  Even the principle behind Move and the Wiimote is the same.  That's not true of Natal.

You are missing the entire point.  NATAL is the software.  Sony is incapable of creating NATAL because they don't have the R&D expertise on the software side.  If you listen to some of the MS R&D folks talk about NATAL, you would get a better idea.
