Forums - Sony - Killzone 3 Environment completely destructible!

I'm calling bullshit. No offense guys, but I just don't think it's gonna happen. Even BFBC2 used tricks to make things destructible. The only game that has done it so far is Red Faction, with Crysis being the next best attempt.

O_O

If this happens, WOW! Just wonder if they can hold the fidelity of KZ2 while such things are in place.

Came here to bring the same point. 3D + Desctructive environment make me worry about the graphics. A videogame should never de-evolve. I refrain from calling K3 a contender to U2, GOW3 and K2 in graphics supremacy until proven that this additions do not take their toll in the graphics department.

But oh well, Battlefield Bad Company has shown us that you can make destructive environments and look good (even though the game was multiplatform which leaves even more hope for K3 being developed exclusively for the Playstation Beast). I doubt that it will look as bad as cheap shit Modern Warfare with its cheap-ass Tony Hawk game engine.

You do know that MW2 uses the Quake 4 engine, a rather old one. At it's time it was amazing, and it's still pretty good.

Plus it was made by John Carmack, the smartest man alive.

Killzone 3 has one thing on it's side, exclusivity. Therefore, it has a HIGHER chance of proving that it can pull if off. Does that guranteee it, nope, but it does give it a greater chance.

Crysis was a PC exclusive, but it still didn't pull it off. I'm not saying it's impossible, and I want it to be true (even though I probably won't be buying the game).

Even though the argument that "devs can use a singular platform instead of a multitude of PCs" comes into play, I still don't see it happening.

My prediction: We won't see FULLY destructible enviroments in a FPS until next-gen or Crysis 3, which ever happens first.

translation :

more elements will be destructible ...

Time to Work !

Tbh, I don't think they really mean "completely" destructible.  I think they mainly mean destructibility has been much improved, and most of what you'd expect to break will break.  More like BC2 than RFG.

And really, RF3's destructibiliity was over the top and unrealistic.  Having a building crumble after a few hits from a sledgehammer?  In that game, everything was breakable, even if in reality there's no way in hell you'd be able to break it.

I wasn't aware that Crysis was touted as having fully destrctible environments prior to release? Either way, Crysis could only run with the specifications of a specific PC. Not everyone could run it the way it was intended. Killzone 3 isn't plagued with that situation, making for greater possiblities.

Crysis has destructible foliage and mostly destructible buildings.

Other than that, I pretty much agree with you.

it sounds like there realy going all out with it then time

thats write. i mean they spent years creating the engin for the graphics. know thats out of the way all they gota do is fine to it ect and they could easily do this. shore i wont be perfect but in my mind this is the next step up from graphics as far a fps games r conserned. and of corse crysis aint gona hav fully destructable world. its an open world game it would take incredable amouts of time to pull of where as killzone is much more linear so it would be alot less diffocult

I believe if anyone could pull it off, it's GG. They had already started improving their engine the sec KZ2 was done. They even talk about how they had already improved the engine to make better looking reflections in water on the commentary for the "Behind the Bullet" commercial.

Edit: Should have clarified there a little bit.  I meant they had improved the engine for that commercial in the short time between finishing the game and its air date.

This all sounds too good to be true. 3D was a pretty big suprise, I can fully understand 3D for racing, but for such a detailed shooter ... hmm I dunno. Don't they have to double the frame-rate for it to work smoothly? Killzone 2 had an average framerate of 26-28 fps with motionblur to compensate. And now destruction?

Well anyway, Killzone 2 was one of the greatest looking games of all time, they must have some super geniuses down at GG pulling more out of the PS3 than anyone else can and I'm sure Killzone 3 will be even more sick this time around.
