I 'm not really interested in the games on those systems. I was interested in Bioshock and Mass Effect but when I saw the main characters firing guns. I lost interest in both titles.

you shouldn't be so quick to judge something based on a stereotype. Bioshock and Mass Effect 2 are both must have experiences, the same with many titles.

The same can be said about many genres or elements.

I don't not play Nintendo games just because of their style. They are still great games even though while I play them all I hear is the game yelling "look, this is imaginative... the enemies are turtles with wings, and you ride a dino that eats fruit and shoots eggs! Cah-rayyyzzzzzzzzeeeeeee!"

All Nintendo games are like that.

I disagree!

[off topic]

I'll grant it's true for mario, Pikmin, Animal crossing and pokemon

However, it is not true for Zelda, metroid, Starfox, F-zero, Wii ______, Donkey Kong, Punch out, endless ocean

Actually, I have bought an HD console. I might finally buy the other once I get a source of income.

You disagree?
Zelda: Whether you're conducting a train, traveling through time, or catching fairies every game ends in saving a princess. The meat of the games is about finding pieces of scattered objects and doing odd (very odd) jobs for the odd world denizens.

Metroid: Not only do you fight a giant brain and space dinosaurs, but you can curl up into a ball..and here's the kicker. You're a GIRL@!

Starfox: You and you're animal posse of starfighter pilots team up to take out a giant face.
Donkey Kong: Really? A king kong ripoff that throws barrels at a plumber with a giant hammer...
or riding a swordfish underwater, or banging on a set of bongos in a rhythm game.

Punch-out: Soda-popinski, king hippo, disco kid, and donkey kong.. Do I really need to say more?

endless ocean, wii _____, and fzero are the most normal out of that bunch. Everything else just screams creativity or "thinking outside the box".

Here's a new Nintendo character....let's see.... a cat...with wings....who was raised by a family of mice.... and is a fireman... whom you meet when you get stuck in a tree.

This is a sentiment that annoys me. Certain people do not like given gameplay elements, or genres. An experience might seem to transcend this to YOU but that is not a universal truth. As an example, I went against my better judgment and actually played Bioshock despite it being a FPS. I went in expecting a good story with fun gameplay. In the end, I got a FPS, and I hated it. The game bored me to tears. I never even got to enjoy the story because I simply could not stomach playing the actual game.

Normally I ignore this, but you even went so far as to point out an opinion statement earlier in the thread. That concept does universalize. A persons opinion is just that, their opinion. Claiming that you know better is both arrogant, and given your commentary in this thread quite hypocritical.

Despite having a 360, there are still more games I enjoy on the Wii. Most HD games don't appeal to me for a variety of reasons. I don't like the fact absurd amounts of dialogue, violence, and cut scenes most of them are littered with, the dull grey and browns, tutorials, and the highly linear structure most of them have. Most of them also just feel soulless to me. Games just seem to be drifting farther and farther away from my tastes, especially on the HD consoles.

You mad?

I'm sorry you took my wording for an absolute. I never meant that it was for everyone. I just meant that you shouldn't judge something based on preconceived notions. You may hate FPS but may one day find the one that changes that. Those GOTYs, those AAA games... they are rated as such because they are the types of games that (have a very high chance to) make you say, "that's something that completely surprised me".

It's too bad that a lot of gamers do have the mentality of "nothing else compares to (blank)", because there's a lot out there that you really should try. So you didn't like Bioshock. Don't blame someone else for getting you to buy it. Someone convinced you that there was something you were missing. And you agreed. You just didn't find the right piece.

My reason is that in Wii there are more games I like to play.

Zelda - so you're saying you don't like the entire fantasy genre because you find it too wacky.

Metroid - so you're saying you don't like the entire sci-fi genre because you find it too wacky.

Star Fox - so you don't like any games in which the main characters are non humans

Donkey Kong - I was talking main series Donkey Kong games in which DK is the protagonist, yes, some of the spin offs like Donkey konga are wacky and the original with mario was, the ones I was talking about are about a gorilla that likes eating bananas.... WaCkY!!!

Punch Out - Perhaps you're right on that one

I think you're too picky if you're limiting yourself in such a fashion

I think you misunderstand. ALl those games...they are all "must play" games. Each one is a great game, and even if it doesn't match your style, there is some solid gameplay in each and every one of them.

My point is that you can't look at an FPS and say, "that game is about shooting things with a gun, it must be ribald and boorish", because there are many that would really surprise you. That kind of ignorance is as coarse as the insult.

It's the same sentiment as associating Nintendo's wackiness with being juvenile and unchallenging.

And, just to point something out, the first two Zeldas were pretty normal. I have nothing against invention and imagination, I just find cleverness to the point of conceit a little irritating. I mean seriously mate.... in the first one you walked around and killed monsters, and in the new ds one, you conduct a train, fraternize with ghosts, kill snowmen, visit a shop in a hot-air balloon and turn into a submarine. Lord of the Rings is less wacky than the latest zelda.

Let's not forget that in DKC you can ride a swordfish underwater, get shot out of barrels, and fight army crocs and giant bees while getting lambasted by cranky kong... a stereotypically senile old man (as a gorilla)

I own a 360 but I barely play it..

Pixel Art can be fun.
