Forums - Microsoft - Gripshift, new XBLA game that combines racing and platforming

This game looks like it might be hard but fun as well.

Around the Network

just so you know, this is out on PSP AND PSN already, and has been on them for a long time.

That looks like Crazy fun.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

This looks like TrackMania. Same developer?

What I thought when I saw the thread title: "They're bringing Trackmania to XBLA?"

It somehow looks unpolished to me. Like the motion is just executing a script instead of using an actual physics system.

According to a recent posting on NeoGAF from the Gripshift developers, they're real excited about porting Gripshift to XBLA, and expect sales to be twice that of their sales on the PSN.

Hopefully this game does well ala Puzzle Quest.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

GripShift has Metascores of 67 and 70 for the PS3 and PSP versions.
The developer claim this is the "definitive version" according to Kotaku. Hopefully that's not just PR nonsense and they have actually addressed whatever criticisms people have of the game.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

Well I would hope so with far more than twice the userbase haha.

It looks a lot more fun than it actually is.  I too was drawn in by the concept and rented it for PSP.    The physics of the game are awful, and you never get the chance to enjoy the game because the entire game is a life and death struggle to keep your car on the freaking track.  The cars slide like you're driving on a road of grease regardless of the surface.  It's pretty much impossible to complete any jump/track/challenge on the first try because the physics are so erratic and unpredictable that it takes 3 or 4 tries to figure out how to get through anything.

Basically it's a great concept but an absolutely awful execution.  Unless they redo all the physics of this game I can't recommend it to anyone.

I remember this game...its available on the PS3 Network and PSP. They were boring as hell on those consoles.

Hopefully with the addition of this game on the Xbox 360 it would be better.

Better online, Yes Xbox 360 achievements!!!, and HD graphics from the Xbox 360!

Another PS3 exclusive goes multiplat? oh no!
