My disagreement with what axumblade posted does not automatically mean that I agree with the guy he was arguing with.
This thread would be much better with that that Nintendo copying lark, I was looking forward to see the responses for the actual OP but seems like Dr.A.Peter.Nintendo has sort of jinxed it temporarily.

Because Nintendo hasn't taken anything from anybody else?
Get out of here, so ignorant.

It actually doesn't really hinge on the assumption that Nintendo hadn't been working on the 3DS before it's announcements. 3D is becoming all the rage so nobody knows who actually came up with the idea to impliment 3D first. Not only that but there is no way that you can tell me that a handheld system with 2 screens (that you supposedly won't need glasses to see) is going to use the same way of implimenting 3D as an HD gaming console (which iirc requires both glasses and a 3D TV. That's where my annoyance with the OPs statement about Microsoft copying Nintendo. |
Fair enough. I think I misunderstood your original post because I didn't understand it in the context of what you were responding to. I agree with the bolded 100% though.
what's this nonsense about microsoft copying nintendo with 3d?
first of all, the 360 has been capable of utilizing 3d since release, MS just
hasn't done anything with it yet.
second, why is the OP bashing MS? they complimented nintendo! i, for one,
find this fellow's attitude towards the 3ds quite admirable. why can't others be
more like that?
Since Microsoft at the moment is not competing in the handled marked, the 3DS gives them some advantages; It damages Sony, it may prevent Apple to get more important in the gaming market, Nintendo will use much money for the developing and marketing of the 3ds, money that will not be spent on Wii.
If you're going to have a debate over companies copying each other I'll just throw in the fact that the Sega Master System had revolutionary 3D LCD shutter glasses (SegaScope 3-D) back in 1987...

that same argument rings true for move. |
Not fueling any fire. But thats not true. Sony had a controller for launch of PS3. They changed it 6 months before lauch to the really poor sixaxis motion controller because of the Wii. If Move was a tech they were developing they wouldnt have used something so cheap at their launch.
On subject, Microsoft often praises Nintendo. Remember the Wiimote Microsoft execs told gamers to go out and buy Wii's. I remember it as clear as day when Microsoft promoted the Wii and agreed with Nintendo that the Wii was not competition. Microsoft also praised the DS and ended up allowing numerous liscensed Microsoft properties to be brought to the DS, sounds like they are pretty verbal of their support for Nintendo. Even now with Natal Microsoft is avoiding direct competition with Nintendo and with this latest praise of the 3DS I am more sure now then ever that Microsoft admires Nintendo. Microsoft's battle is and always has been with Sony, not Nintendo.
All this talk of copying really made me want to clear things up!
First - the 3DS is not copying existing technology. Its not the same as 3D on the TV in any way shape or form. You need glasses to watch/play PS3/360 games or BluRay's. The 3DS is giving you the 3D experiance without the glasses using breaking technology that Nintendo and Sharp had been developing for years. Now when Microsoft announces that they will launch 3D games requiring glasses they will be copying PS3 which copied the technology from RealD and all the other 3D content providers.
Move- No Move was not in development before Wii. The camera was in development and had many uses we know this because of the EyeToy and other peripherals. However the controller itself was not in development. We know this because Sony said motion controllers like that weren't going to catch on. Sony themselves said the technology wasn't going anywhere. Sony then revealed the ripped off technology of the tilt sensor in the PS3 controller. If Sony had the technology and/or had been working on it for awhile Move would have come out near launch not 4-years later.
Fact is Natal is origional, the 3DS is origional, the Wiimote is origional, 3D on PS3 is somewhat origional. But the fact is copying technology is central to Sony's core values and no Sony is not always developing such technology ahead of time. Perfect example Sony said the PSP will not be going 3D and that 3D is not the future for the handheld market. Just like they said the Wiimote was not the future of the household market.
When Sony says something is not the future and they have no interest in replicating it, then four years later pops out a near perfect replica, it can't mean anything except ripping off!
