I don't get it. Isn't this software catered to the casual crowd? Do casual gamers reserve games? I didn't think so. The very definition of the word "casual" contradicts it.

In Japan the lines between casual gamer and hardcore gamer are far more blurred.

According to an admin living in Japan over on the NeoGAF boards, people who don't have pre-orders for Wii Fit won't be getting it day 1.

Just thought I'd throw more fuel on the prediction fire!

I don't understand why they just didn't produce millions of them and meet demand on day 1 rather than having shortages, etc.

They want to space out the shipments across the entire holiday rather than just one day, it looks better PR wise than having just one shipment sellout and then be unavailable for the rest of the year

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Probably for the same reason there weren't millions of Guitar Hero controllers on day 1 for GH3's launch. You just can't create hardware out of thin air!

@Legend11 - And if it bombs?Nintendo is a little bit smarter than Atari was back then(E.T. anyone?).
