Forums - Sony - Will SONY pay VALVE for PS3 support??

Wel... Square Enix received a huge amount of money for doing a MS version of FF... isn´t possibile that Valve receive $$$ from Sony to start a DevUnit for PS3?

Sounds like Valve´s non interest on PS3 is related to theyr core strategy PC (Game Community), port to X360 and now port to MAC.. I don´t belive they are lazy, they are great, but... BUT... is VALVE waitting for a sign from SCE?

thanks and sorry about my terrible english.

If Sony was to pay Valve, it'd be for a PS3 Exclusive Game and Valve right now wouldn't accept that IMO.

Yep, its a shame, as sony could get one up on ms, and allow Valve to update their games for free, so therefore TF 2 would get all the updates, and L4D1/2 would get all the free updates that PC gamers are getting.

Thats if we are to believe what Valve says as to explain why the charge for DLC (seems reasonable to..)

I'm not that into shooters, but i know there are some good ones out there for those who like them. and the PS3 has more than enough shooters for the market at the moment. in my opinion they dont need valve, unless valve make other games other than shooters. Do they??

but we'll see, i doubt valve would go exclusive, and i dont think sony would pay them a penny, so i think it will be valve who take the first step really, if any steps are taken at all?

It is pretty obvious that Sony has not sent and is not going to send any dime to Valve. The constant bickering and whining of this fat Valve guy proves that beyond any doubt. They are begging for money so they get a freebie path to learn to master the PS3 architecture. Sorry Valve - too late, too many derogatory remarks towards the PS3.

I highly doubt it (at least until the PS4 launch) because the main point of money hatting is that it increases your install base at the expense of your profit figure. That's very good in the early years of a generation when games push large amounts of hardware, and the new owners have a long time in which to buy games, less useful now though.

Honestly I hope they don't waste their money. Valve is not a bad developer. But honestly I don't like alot of their games. I find them either mediocre or just bad all together.

Never, they are not that important. What have they done for MS ? Left 4 Dead 1/2 yes big titles but is it enough to be that important ?

I am only interested in Half Life Episode 3 for PS3. And I hope they will port it or maybe EA will port it since EA ported Orange Box.

Infact Valve is big for PC due to Steam Half Life Source Engine. But they dont play a big role for Consoles. They have Left4Dead but for example Square is more important for Consoles thats why they got money. And btw this doesnt fit into the strategy of Sony. They wait and look for talented small developer and buy them before they become to big.

When have they paid last time some developer for games ? Cant even remember. Its a way better Strategy to buy Studios and build up a strong first party ofcourse its a slow way to success but in the long run its a better investment then to pay for exclusives.

I doubt that Sony would pay Valve for making games on PS3.

Valve simply hasn't been interested in developing for PS3. Originally their excuse was that it was too complicated, which was a load of bullshit. They simply didn't want to have to hire or train developers to program and design for a system that is outside their target PC base and their cashcow Steam. 360's fine because of it's similarity to PC archetecture. The only reason why the Orange Box was on PS3 is because Electronic Arts strong armed Valve telling them that if they wouldn't port it to PS3, they they'd find someone who would. After that though, they're excuse use to be that the install base for PS3 in the West is too low to warrant it, but with the PS3 install base explosion since the release of the slim, Valve will have to either suck it up or come up with a new excuse.

It's not that Valve is lazy. It's just that they don't have incentive to put forward the resources needed to develop for PS3.

As far as Sony is concerned, they don't have the cash to waste on buying exclusivity, much less buying multiplatformity. Sony sees better use from their money in buying studios such as Media Molecule who they can then go and have them make exclusives. It's more expensive, but Sony gets more bang for their buck and get the bonus of increasing their assets at the same time.

To quote a certain someone: "[Valve] aren't bad people. They're just idiots."

I'm looking at you, Gabe Newell.
