I'd take the bet if you take one version of GTA vs Brawl.

No both versions. Why count all the copies sold of one game to only some of the copies sold of another?
Nah, That's not really fair to Smash since it's only on one console. I guess it's not fair to GTA the other way though.
I will be purchasing SSBB on day one, but its sales will not come anywhere near those of GTA4 Legend11. Unfortunately, Wii owners at large do not seem to be rallying around the consoles traditional first-party hardcore powerhouses like they used to. LoZ did well, but SMG has been disappointing as was Metroid.

First week:
360: 1.5m
PS3: 500k
Lifetime:
360: 8m
PS3: 1.5m
"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

Im willing to bet the ps3 version of gta 4 will outsell Super smash bro's lifetime sales.

Brawl will be a completely different story...you'll see.

Topic: X360, easily.
Side Topic:
GTA4 might sell well. On the plus side, it's an established name brand. On the minus side, it may have worn out its welcome with GTA3, Vice City, San Andreas AND Liberty City Stories. LCS didn't sell as well.
Assuming demand hasn't died down, GTA4 will easily outsell GTA3.
For comparison:
PS2
US
GTA3 was released on 10/22/01.
4.869 million PS2s in the US.
Others
GTA3 was released on 10/26/01.
3.875 million PS2s in Europe.
If GTA4 were to be released right now in US and Europe:
8.8 million X360s US
4.34 million X360s Others
2.61 million PS3s US
2.30 million PS3s Others
GTA4 has a larger user base to sell to compared to GTA3. 20 million LTD may not be too far off.
There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
