Forums - Gaming - Why you should buy new games

1) You get a pretty new box.

2) Supporting your console(s) of choice

3) Good sales lead to add ons, more games in the series, maybe a movie.

4) Brings more money to the industry, lets be real used games are a profit for gamestop not the devs.

5) some of them are pretty cheap, I just bought MGS4 brand new for $20.00 (GT5 prolouge was 29.99)

6) If people bought new on release dates instead of waiting for used copies it would make the numbers far more interesting.

my only thoughts are new games should come down to the 25-45 dollar range depending on quality and game length/replay value. I base what games I buy off of price, not if they are new, used, or download only. If the price is right I will get it

In my personal opinion only first party games are worth 60 or 50 bucks, they always have the best quality.

When you have to get a game on day 1, usually there aren't any pre-owned copies!

Theese games were worht every penny:

MGS4, FF13, Yakuza 3, ittleBigPlanet

1) So do used and even piracy if you've got a printer. The Manual is a nice extra, or at least it should be. It's sad just how the manual has declined from what it used to be.

2) used game sales (and even piracy) support higher console sales. the ability to get cheaper games makes a console a lot more attractive to a lot of people

3) do you really want a movie? I'm not gonna argue this point, I'm just saying, movie? Really?

4) I'm being quite real. used game sales give money to the people who buy games, who then buy more games. Stop always looking at the used game rack and start looking at the new game rack to see just how many people are using their revenue from used games to buy new ones. Every one of those used games is fresh game buying ammo for the game buying public.

5) That's a pretty damn good reason to buy those games. Affordable is generally a good reason to get something, hence used game sales.

6) if people bought new on release dates, reason 5 would go out the window.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

Bought at my first midnight launch, I took the next day off of work lol

Most games have little value when they're priced at $50-$60. I mean, even "main" games might be a little pricey at $50-$60. I'm all for buying new copies that are $30-$40 for games that are worth it, but isn't it a waste to buy a game, play it for 10-12 hours, and the put it away? Now yes, quality of experience > amount of hours played in some cases, but there are plenty of games where you can have both. Unless you feel some incessant need to buy EVERY game you could ever want, I wouldn't suggest buying new games, at least not at $50-$60.

In direct response:
1) Boxes are clutter, and anyone who has many many games understands this well. Especially if you move around every few years.
2) Console loyalty is a silly silly thing. I'm a believer of liking good games, not just supporting Sony or MS or Ninty.
3) Considering many people dislike DLC, I don't see how that's a good thing. And like video game movies have been good ever.
4) All well and good, but why pay $60 for something if you can get it for $35 later? Unless you "need" it right away.
5) This is fine, buying new games later is great, and I do it often.
6) If people bought all their games on release date instead of waiting until they are at a lower price (whether used or not), many people would own fewer games.

The companies are the ones that need to adapt to the consumers. If they are not selling, then they are doing something wrong. It is not the consumers that need to change so that they behave like companies want them to behave. Makes no sense for me.

I had poor attendance since January, so believe my luck I got a letter home saying "you have low attendance, don't miss lessons" the week before FF13 came out.

So I couldn't skip school the day FF13 came out, but school only started at 1:30 (I had free's in the morning) so I played like Chapter 1 & then went to school.....that chemistry lessons was the longest one of my whole life!!!!!!!!!!
