Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie: There is no secret Wii warehouse.

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=31044

"At this point we are literally trying to catch up with demand," said Fils-Aime, in an interview with news.com.

"There is no secret plan to store Wiis in a warehouse to spur demand. The company, after all, is trying to reach out to women and 40 and 50-year olds who aren't avid gamers."

"They aren't going to sleep outside of a store overnight or visit a retailer five or six times. It is literally a missed opportunity," he said.

Looks like the Wii is going to be near impossible to find this holiday season since it seems that the only new supply for retailers will be the units produced in November.

Sure glad I already got mine(at launch). It would suck to not be able to play Galaxy because I could find a Wii.

So really my chance of finding a Wii is really small this holiday season....*sighs*

Ebay, OTOH, has been warehousing them.

Nintendo's first lie.

Does this mean the Wii won't reach 20M by year end as so many have predicted?

I think they are producing about 2 million a month so unless Reggie is lying they will probably end up in the 17 to 18 million range.

You've read this wrong Saiyar -- it says they aren't storing Wiis away to spur demand. That's an entirely different thing than storing Wiis away for Christmas sales.

What about the fact that they were always selling less than they were producing? They started producing 1.8 million per month some time ago already, and I don't see those being sold...

Key phrase being "to spur demand." It doesn't mean they don't have any warehoused for holiday sales. Even Sony says they stockpile for the holidays. Just about everyone does.
