Blue Dragon
What they did right: Graphics, character designs, music, and it has that "japanese charm" like seeing funny robots and stuff

What they did wrong: everything else. Story, engaging characters, old school random encounter game play all fail.

i loved blue dragon, it reminded me of the old school dragon ball anime when goku was a little kid. the game didnt have random encounters, you choose who you want to fight, and you can avoid monsters if you want. the main characters sucked, every other character design was better, the music was amazing, the graphics were pretty good, funny robots pwn. the gameplay is the best thing about the game, which is why i gave this game a solid 8.0

I meant turn based game play. sorry

Folklore looks pretty fun as well. Wish I had the money to go pick up a 60 gig. I see 4 games Id like to play on PS3 now.

Around the Network

Rogue Galaxy (2007 for both EU and NA), Valkyrie profile Silmeria (2007 for EU), Persona 3, Final Fantasy XII (2007 for EU), Shadow Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy III (DS).

The PS2 is still the RPG king.

Argh! I want persona bad, but I don't have the time or $! :(

Jeanne D'Arc

thats my runner up for rpg game of the year

Well that's pretty good. Second place for this year is an accomplishment.

I think JD'Arc has a nice combat system, good level design, fairly good story (but see below for a negative), fair level of complexity and decent art direction. It's playable right up to the very end of the main story and has a bonus feature for playing on after the end that is fairly good for these sort of things. I would guess the main story is about 25-30 hours which is a very nice length for a SRPG.

Negative points: The bosses that you fight over and over again. They never seem to die. The loading of animations from the UMD is very irritating when it's happening in the middle of a battle. The skill stone system is interesting but seems overly complex. The godspeed powerup is broken in the sense that it becomes the primary consideration in combat.

The game overall was entertaining and I would recommend it to any fan of the SRPG genre.

I hate to quote myself but first thing I wrote about assassins creed:

" Ok I know its not an RPG but it does have a lot of RPG elements and many things I'd like to see other devs implement in future games. Its hard to Pigeon hole this game into a single genre as it combines the elements of so many."

I know it was an overly lenthy, overly verbose post. Just wondering if anyone actually read it. I guess its a good thing I didnt do all the games I liked this year like I started to.
