Forums - Sony - Heavy Rain low framerate

The tearing bugged me more than the frame-rate drops, they weren't as intrusive as the tearing.

the PS3 might have been overheating. Framerate drops when my PS3 gets warm before the fan kicks in even when playing some of the PSN titles.

It was a very stable framerate though. No matter if I moved the camera, went down the stairs etc. A steady 12fps (or possibly 15).

I don't mind temporary frame drops in general. They r common in nearly all games, they're natural. This was different, that's why I am confident it was another issue that had nothing to do with the game (or even the PS3 probably).

Could it be some kind of de-sync thingy between the PS3 output and the TV in question (a big LCD)? And it put the framerate in half or something like that?

Perhaps. Trust me when I tell you, HEAVY RAIN's initial issues have been, for the most part, patched up. Those issues mainly involved frame tears & freezing. Now don't get me wrong, during my multiple playthroughs, there were dips here or there in frames (Mall being one of the areas that it got a bit bad - but for literally seconds), but none like you observed. It could have been an issue with that particular unit.

I believe u.

I am sure it was something with their hardware-connection-to-TV, wrong cables, anything.

Close thread lol.

Hopefully you enjoy it. I know it's my offspring () but seriously, I really hope you like it. NO franchise/game could have ever 1-upped the SILENT HILL franchise like that for me. It took something THIS damn special!

I strongly believe I will like it.

Your so lucky that it turned out to be a great game man. After all that hype.

I was secretely hoping for it to become a big fiasco just to see your reaction, for the lols.

Listen to CGI, he knows more about the game way way more than anyone else

@Slimebeast I never experienced anything like you have while playing Heavy Rain...this was a store model PS3? I'm guessing the power cables weren't connected properly, white strip up? Or that particular PS3 was on it's last legs of life? :(

PS3's don't die, they evolve :P

OT: I never had any frame rate issues playing HR - at all..  I had one freeze and a few screen tearing's but that was when it first came out... probably fixed by now... (I hope)

HR was an awesome game, and even if it had some slowdowns.. not like it's a fast paced game where frame rate slowdown will kill you :)

I've already decided to get this game so don't jump on me now lol.

I was at the electronics store today where they had a PS3 with Heavy Rain on so I played it a bit. The level was where this dad is walking around his house. It was pretty neat. Felt like a good old point'n'click in a very modern costume. One thing literally shocked me though. The framerate was absolutely horrible. If someone would tell me that it was less than 10 frames per seconds I wouldn't doubt it. Im not talking about dips, it had a constant low framerate wherever I walked in the house. I would estimate 12 fps. It certainly wasn't more than 15 fps.

In general frames per seconds ain't that important to me in games. I prefer boosted graphics before high fps. But this felt very unpleasant and almost painful to my eyes.

Thoughts? Can someone confirm this or was this particular machine broken or something?

Wait... WTF?  Just noticed... You have 360 and PC tags under your name... where are the PS3 games Slimebeast?  Are you ashamed of your PS3 games?!

You make Madison cry.

"Die?"

The PS3 laughed. "Didn't you know?"he told the Elite model. "...Playstations never die."

Frame rate didn't bother me at all through out the game. Screen tearing's another story tough.

They don't die... unless it's February 28th at midnight on a non-leapyear
