Forums - Sony - Final Fantasy XIII, the best ever?

am i the only one here who loved the FFXI and FFXII battle systems... I prefer to be able to control only one of my characters in real time battles while the AI takes control of the others. It's more realistic.

Nope, I LOVED it...and I've played the other FF, so I wasn't a noob to FFXII. Anyhow, I've got over 185 hours logged on FFXII already...lol, a poor battle system would have stopped me from having that many hours for sure.

Anyhow, people just get their panty's in a bunch when a major feature such as the "battle system" is changed. Most don't even approach it with an open mind. The whole reason SE changed it was because everyone was crying about random encounters and turn based battles and needing a "new" feel to the gameplay--now they cry that it's different. Such is the way of the world! But people will buy, most will love it, but a few haters will scream louder than all the others combined.

Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.

Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)

Final Fantasy XII battle system was horrible in my opinion. I tried to play the game for about 2 hours and got turned off by the battle system quickly. I then really wanted to revert back to Final Fantasy X battle system.

If Final Fantasy XIII has the same battle system as Final Fantasy XII, then it looks like that game is coming off "My Favorite PS3 games List" then. I would certainly look forward to Final Fantasy versus XIII. Since that game will have a sort of Kingdom Hearts-type battle system.

I would just enjoy Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey on the Xbox 360 for my conventional battle system I'm use to.
atta boy, you know whats up

Personally, I think FFXI is one of if not the best current MMO out there, though I think it's a bad FF game (in the same way that FF: Spirits Within was a good Sci-Fi movie but a terrible FF movie).  The FFXII gambit system was pretty good too, I just didn't like getting the really useful gambits 10+ hours into the game and I hated the license system with a passion.

FFXII's battle system was good in the very difficult fights - but through most of the game it was like setting everybody on autopilot (overall easy). Hopefully FFXIII will force you to think more and make the game more challenging w/o including a huge amount of grinding.

Aaaahhhh Twestern, you hit the jackpot m'boy with FF6. I absolutely loved the game. It had everything, from story line, music, extras to good graphics at the time. Simply the best. If both FF6 and FF7 were to get a next gen remake, i would vote for FF6 to be the better game.

I thought the boss battles in FFXII were kind of lame after a while. It all came down to the boss casting every abnormal status in the game on your characters, you heal and recover, then continue attacking.

The battle system is cool but it needs more depth. Hopefully they add that in FFXIII if it is indeed using the same battle system(which hasn't been confirmed yet).

Great now you made me wanna play FFXI! I've only tried it for a couple of minutes and i didn't like it but they told me it sucks at the beginning.

ok posting a fan made video of things that never happened doesn't really mean anything. You can find videos bashing just about anything. Of course it's popular to hate FFVII and people will just keep bashing it for no reason. Cloud was hardly emo in FFVII and he acted nothing like that in the game. He fought to save the world, he had friends, he made jokes. Selfish at first? Sure. Emo? No. Cloud was cocky as hell and always boasting about how badass he was. That's hardly him saying he wasn't strong enough.

As for Vincent, being a hidden character and all he barely said anything. But I'll admit sleeping in a box for all eternity because you failed at something is pretty emo.

Oh don't worry my hate for FFVII isn't based on any fan-made video but my own experiences with the game.  I found the characters uninteresting, the plot contrived and poorly translated, the villain mediocre, the art dull and lifeless, and the visuals practically unplayable.

The FF game that doesn't get enough credit is FFIX.  A great plot, more character development than any other FF game, gorgeous art, the best FF music ever written, and a return to the Fantasy roots of FF (instead of the sci-fi that VII and VIII were) make it not only one of the best Final Fantasy games but one of the best RPGs.

Reading and understanding is fundamental and you guys fail. FFXIII is excuting the battle system different to FFXII as Claude pointed out.

well it's fine to hate FFVII, but Cloud still isn't emo. As for FFIX I'm a pretty big fan of that one as well(I like all of them from VI and up aside from VIII).

FFIX does have a good soundtrack but I dunno I always though VI, VII and X all had better music. I have all the music on my computer though so I listen to all the soundtracks from time to time, none are bad. Great game but I wont say I agree about it being one of the best RPGs ever, there are just so many good ones out there...
