DS will become the best selling console of all time, an analyst has predicted.

PlayStation 2 currently holds the record for the best-selling console in America but according to NPD analyst Anita Frazier, the DS should beat it by "October or November."

The DS was the best-selling system during April in the US, shifting 440,800 handhelds. This means DS has now sold over 129 million since launching in the US in 2004. With PS2 standing at 140 consoles sold, there's not long to go before DS surpasses it.

It does deserve it since nearly anyone I talk to over the internet has one and even some memebrs of my family has one.  I think if DS stays on the market for about another 2 years it will finish around 170M.

MY guess that DS will be ahead of PS2 Around Christmas, 145M I guess.( Shipped)

but the ds is not a console. Atleast by my definition, it is a hand held, a damn good one at that, 'm confused.

It's a handheld "console", DS and PS2 are both video game machines but only differ in size.

I think the DS is going to surpass the PS2 no problem and continue to sell strong even after 3DS is launched. I'd expect to see it on store shelves another two years minimum with total sales of over 180-million by the end of its lifespan. Does the DS deserve to be the best selling gaming console ever?

Yes it does, and no it doesn't. I think the DS deserves to beat the PS2 because it changed the way we play games and really spawned innovation in the industry. Does it believe to be the best selling console in history? I think not I'd say the Wii deserves to be the greatest selling console in history though I doubt it will become that.

Something that becomes the greatest selling better be pioneering a new direction, revolutionalizing the way we play games and the Wii and DS are the only two platforms other then Pong and the NES that I think are deserving of such a highly coveted position. Nintendo must be really proud~!
