Forums - Gaming - God of War III vs Uncharted 2 vs Alan Wake Graphics Comparison. WHY ?

i don't think they are close enough to be compared. Do you honestly go 'wow!' when you see Alan Wake in action? Running at 576p automatically relegates AW from the technical battle, and it doesn't help that even the much-hyped lighting is bested by GOW3's superior multi-source lighting. Not to mention that the MLAA in GOW3 is f#$%ing unbelievable, you can't find any jaggies even if you tried. UC2 has crazy detailed textures and smooth animation that runs like a dream.

Art style is something that is up for debates but both GOW3 and UC2 have way more variety in environment than AW and i also happen to think that they look more appealing to the masses with their vibrant and strong use of colours.

Thread backfired.

OP this is an excellent thread, more people should think like this. Its tiring to see useless comparisons

On the 3 games you mention it's because some people were claiming Alan Wake was going to be best console graphics ever, and up until Alan Wake's release UC2 and GoW III were (arguably) the 2 best console graphics ever. And the rest is history. Though judging by some posts it's not quite historical enough.

It will start all over again with Crysis 2, because Crytek (unlike Remedy) really are going for best console graphics ever. So the developer itself is fanning the graphics war flames. After Crysis 2 either puts the money or the foot into Crytek's mouth things should quieten down a bit on the best console graphics ever front. But probably not for long.

It seems there's a graphics crown, and where there's a crown there's all manner of people trying to claim it. Art style and theme are irrelevant in the pursuit of the crown. The crown is genreblind.

Why? simple, comparing our wangs is NSFW, comparing graphics is the next best thing.

Well, some people like to compare the technical acheivement between different developers. Ignoring art style, I just find it interesting to see how each developer tries to optimise their code to maximise the hardware.

Comparing art style is pointless mind.

As much as I'd want to play it ASAP, I'm pretty sure it'll be a holiday 2011 or Q1 2012 title.

People compare GOW3 to Uncharted 2? wtf, Uncharted 2 is one of the best looking games on the market, GOW3 had a great character model for Kratos, Hades and the Titans but everything was mediocre.

What about the amazing HDR lighting, motion blur, beautiful vistas, groundbreaking scale, wonderful textures ?

GoW III looks like CGI at some points....its by no means "mediocre" in the graphics department.
