Many people believe that Ps3 was overpriced and had no games a few years ago. It was also made about a $200 loss per console. However now it at leats breaking even and it has a roughly 35 million user base. Even the Ps2 sold at a loss for the first couple of years after it launched. So is the Ps3 been sucessful so far? At what price point do you think it will sell the most? Also do you think it will ever surpass PS2?

A success for Sony, No

For gamers, Hell Yes!

PS3 has already made something like 6 billion losses (lot more if you don't count PS2 and PSP profits after PS3 launch) so no. For Sony succes is that they make a lot of money. Heck financially PS3 is probably one of the biggest disasters ever in whole electronic business.

I wouldn't count it as a failure for Sony. If they would have skipped this gen, MS would have won the whole HD market and it would have been WAY harder for them to enter the next gen race.

Financially, we can't say yet. Sure, they lost a HUGE amount of money, but if they continue their business like now, they might break even again or make some small earnings. You have to consider that they continue to sell the PS3, even after they brought out their next console. I doubt they will make the big buck with the PS3 again, though.


But like TheNoobHolocaust already said,(cool name by the way) for gamers the PS3 is a true blessing.

They haven't profited much (if at all) directly from their Blu Ray fabrication. The PSP has suffered from a lack of first party attention due to desperation to save the PS3 and they have directly lost billions of dollars. Further to that the value of their Playsation business has dropped massively so in equity terms if they sold off their Playstation business now it'd be worth less than half it was compared to the end of last generation. All up its an almost unrivaled failure in the history of gaming.

Sony fired, sorry "retired", its creator... that's a big sign of no to me.
