Forums - Microsoft - How do you deal with disgruntled Halo 3 players who won't play Halo Reach?

Well I have to join your two mates and 1337 gamers's opinion about it.

But hey it is the same with the people who love COD: WaW MP while others say it suck compared to COD : MW....

I was one of these people who has the nostalgic feeling towards WAW after playing so much MW2. I thought to myself that WAW was the better game because of all the boosting and camping done in MW2 and how annoying it was. So last night I proceeded to hit up the local gamestop and pick up WAW for $20 and couldn't wait to pop it in. I must say after 10 minutes I quickly changed my mind and realized MW2 is head and shoulders above WAW. The perks are terrible, guns are terrible, tanks are uber annoying, and oh yeah if you don't have the map packs you can't play because you get booted from 75% of the servers.

So I must say these Halo 3 players are living on memories and nostalgia created over the years. Its hard for them to change and they are comparing years of memories tied to a game to a beta. When Reach is released in September your friends will come around. They will get used to the armor abilities and the new game modes and will create more memories. Even if they don't buy it right away let them play your copy of Reach when its released and they will soon realize it is a better game than Halo 3 when they go back. Just as I realized that WAW really wasn't that great of a game, just memories that made it seem that way.

P.S. I returned WAW this morning and put my $20 on a Reach preorder.

Totally agree about the nostalgia feeling.

Everyone still praises CoD and CoD2 on the PC (I'm guilty as well), but last month I was on a LAN playing with my friends and some didn't have a good PC, so we decided to play CoD1 multiplayer. It was still fun no question about that, but by todays standards and especially compared to MW and MW2, CoD1 MP is just below average nowadays. Simple and uninspiring. We played 3 matches and then quitted cause we were bored. I'm sure with MW or MW2 we would've played it the whole night.

If they were just xbl friends I would say to leave it, there's really nothing you can do to change their opinion.

However since these are your real life friends I understand your predicament since you want to be able to play with them online and I actually had the same problem with one of my close friends. He sent me a text saying how Reach sucks and I calmly refuted him and provided counter arguments. I also, in a non-condescending way, gave him some pointers and tips in order to help his game. For example he thought that even if the reticule blooms the bullets would hit dead center every time and was getting frustrated when he couldn't get the last head shot so I explained to him the new mechanics for shooting. He's started to come around and is really enjoying the game now, especially Invasion mode.

This is actual good advice...I'll try positive suggestions to what they have issues with. Better come up with reasons why its good to have grenades so powerful... :)

Have they even played reach, or is it just speculation?

Tell them there's BRs and Guardian on Reach, I'm sure they'll flock to it!

Seriously though, I haven't played Reach Beta (I only ever played Halo 3 co-op at a friend's, didn't really enjoy the game). It is annoying though when people start badmouthing a game without giving it a proper try first.

It's not as if they are pulling H3 off line. Let them be. You'll have 5 million friends the first week to play Reach with.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Lets face it, the only people that are not liking Halo REach are the ones that are not doing well.

And from what I've seen...people that are not doing well are people who used to stick to walls and corners, crouch with swords and shotties a lot, completely rely on the BR or always try to capture the high ground on a map and hold it.

People that constantly moved around in Halo 3 and are able to use the best weapon for each situation are kicking ass in Reach.

With that said, I see how people may take time to get used to these new power ups. In halo 3, when you had your sights on someone, you were goin in for the kill... In Reach, you kinda have to let people get away sometimes even though you have them almost dead.

My freinds that are unhappy with reach are not hardcore gamers by any means. Halo 2 was a pretty steep learning curve when they started playing and it took them 2 years to get in to it. Then same with 3... They still bitch at the introduction of shield drain power ups and other stuff which wasn't in halo 2. Now Reach has completely changed the game to them and they seem reluctant to spend time to learn it.

Thats basically it too.  I know I was put off from the game for a bit, but after I changed my tactics a bit i pretty much dominate kids now (got over a 2.0 KD spread for grab bag and invasion) even though I still lose a ton of my games because my teammates usually are ridiculously horrible.

Just leave them alone. Its not like everyone has to like reach. I actually happen agree with them can i join their clan?

says the commander grade 1.

Let's just face it over 70% of the people who are complaining about Reach are noobs who only knew how to four shot on a broken BR and know nothing about actual skill.

If Reach sucks so bad why does nearly every single pro and MLG absolutley love it?  Because all those skrubs who thought they were awesome at H3 because they knew how to BR are getting destroyed now that skill is back.
