Tell me something I dont know.
Okay, that was a bastard comment, but it's so obvious that a new hardware gen will come soon.

I know it's like common sense isn't it?
All 3 platforms are profiting now, as long as Microsoft and Sony work on not making such loss leaders at the start of the gen, then everyone is home and dry!
wii 2 hd and 362 will be here in 2014. PS3 in 2015. i know. to close to the 10th yr. its just seems logical to me.
it all sounded borring but it was a good read and puts everything i've been saying about why console gaming won't die in (atlease) the next 5 to 10 gens into perspective.
@ CGI-Quality
I don't know where you find the time or the articles for all the threads you've been putting out lately, but let me thank you for creating some of the better discussions on this site lately. It's nice to have threads not pertaining to "My console is better than yours".
OT
I agree with the author in that we will be playing on consoles in the foreseeable future. The idea of download only and cloud gaming is great in theory for piracy reasons, but I personally like having a hard copy of games that I pay full retail price for. Games under $20, I have no problem downloading and not being able to lend out or resell. I also like the idea of a console in front of me. It's something tangible. I'd rather have a console than to pay a monthly service fee for maintaining servers just to play games I have already purchased.
Plus, Nintendo and Microsoft have both shown there is still plenty of money to be made in the hardware business. Sony took their early lumps with the PS3 but it looks like they too are finally out of the red on each PS3 sold. I doubt they will make the same mistake again. Plus don't forget all the accessories that each console manufacturer gets to gouge consumers on.

Pipedream24 i agree with you 100%. and as for CGI-Quality. you are one of the brightest minds on this site.
This is not news to me.
I agree 100% with the Article.
Good read. I agree that cloud gaming is a long ways off, at least as the standard for the industry.

I think end of 2011 for Nintendo (3DS this year Wii 2 or whatever next year) possibly 2012, Microsoft 2012 and if Natal and or slim fails to increase sales a lot 2011, Sony should hold out until 2013 maybe even 2014 if move boosts sales and GT5 doesn't come out by 2013. IMO anyway 2014-2015 is wishful thinking on your part I think tech is reaching the point where a new gen is worthwhile, the current gen is getting a bit long in the tooth and Microsoft and Sony are running out of tricks to boost sales move and Natal smell of desperation TBH.

Yes, I know, a LOOOONG read. An interesting one, nonetheless. |
4 O's in long and CAPITALISED, for that? O_o Have you young'uns got the attention span of a gnat or something?
OT: I didn't know anyone was seriously anticipating this generaion would see the death of all consoles. I mean, with Michael Pachter predicting Wii2 / Wii HD every fortnight, and I vaguely recall him mentioning PS4 and probably even NextBox it seems one of the biggest industry forecasters (albeit unreliable in some areas of predicting) isn't seeing the death of consoles any...oh...wait...
