Forums - Nintendo - Iwata explains why Japanese love 2D and not so much 3D

2D Mario + 3D Mario > each individually

But I like Galaxy more than NSMBWii.

After NSMB Wii selling so much I wonder why they didn't make 2D mario for Gamecube. it would have helped HW sales a lot.

Is this a blanket statement or only in reference to Mario games?

Very differend types of games.

One is tight controls with perfect placement of enemies.

The other is running around a world, looking for stars with wonky controls and not perfect placement of enemies.

Honestly, for game design and level creation, 2D Mario is much better.

It took NSMB on the DS to show them how much money 2D Mario prints.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
