I was at the democratic election party 2008 in Texas when Obama was elected. From that alone, gay people

Im intrigued.....how was that experience?

Crazy. I've never in my life seen anyone as excited about politics, it was really far out. I've never been to an election party here at home though, but there were several projectors playing various news channels, and people would cheer like crazy every time something good was mentioned about the democrats, which is way more passionate then I would ever expect most people here at home to react.

Then when Obama was elected, the room exploded, people were just going nuts, cheering, waving banners around, etc.

And everything calmed down when he held his speech, and the party started breaking up afterwards.

So yeah, crazy.

I remember a couple years back, on a dating website (not a bad way to meet people honestly), I was talking to this girl for about a week. She finally asked me what my ethnicity was and when I told her I'm half middle eastern she deleted her account minutes later.

I'm called a camel-jockey, a *and I quote* "sand nigga" and a stinking Ayrab at least once a week at work.

I've been to many places around the world and unfortunately America is the most prejudice of the bunch. However, there are the majority of open minded, intelligent people that see through a lot of those stereotypes and boy are they fun to meet :)

I want to say -other- Middle Easterns and Muslims got it the worst. That's completely based on personal experience.

Camel Jockey and Sand Nigga are mild. Now being called a "terrorist" is much worse. During the 2006 Lebanon vs Israel conflict, I'd be walking down the street and people would shout out 'LEBANON GOES BANG!!' (I'm Lebanese by the way). All my friend's make small jokes at my background, referencing terrorism and Aladin, all you can really do is laugh along with them because they just don't undertstand how hurtful that is. My cousin and his friend was bashed nearly to death a few week's ago by a local football team because of their ethnicity. My cousin now has a huge scare from his scalp to below his ear and his friend's in rehab because he can't move his leg's properly and has fits (they're 15).

Yup, us Arab's have had it pretty bad over the course of 9 year's...

Bet with Conegamer and AussieGecko that the PS3 will have more exclusives in 2011 than the Wii or 360... or something.

Racism + homophobia is ingrained into the minds of conservative/right wing voters aka rednecks. The Republican Party are well known for being racist + homophobic.

Oh, definitely gay people. There's no law stopping black people from getting married, for one. Christians don't frown upon black people. Racist hate crime is pretty much non-existent. I mean, just look at VGC. It's perfectly acceptable to say that you believe homosexuality is wrong (as in, not bannable), but you can't exactly say that being black is wrong, can you?

I know this will start a shitstorm, but it is ridiculous to argue that there is any kind of consensus on whether that is a form of discrimination or homophobia.  For millions, perhaps billions of people, it's simply a matter of definition and tradition.

A lot of tenuous links are made between gay marriage and racism, and they are mostly irrelevant.

That said, I agree with those saying gay people are discriminated against far more than black people in America, and most countries.  There are for example, substantial impediments to economic and social equality for gay people in most American states, that should be rectified as soon as possible.

Pretty much, if you're not White, Male, Christian, Straight, Rich and Physically Fit in the US.. you're most likely going to be discriminated against.

Here's another type of big discrimination in America.

Liberals and Republicans.

Many people in these groups usually assume that those in the other party follow the most extreme beliefs.

E.g., liberals think republicans are racist, homophobic rednecks and republicans think liberals are tree-hugging hippies.

A note to anyone who follows this mentality:

Shut up.
