Forums - Gaming - What game engine did YOU use?

with this thread , i thought since PhyreEngine is free, some people might have used it , of course i don't think you can download it off a site or something (can you?)

but in this thread, i'll ask anyone who used a gaming engine to share what engines did you use, you don't have to make a game or something, i never did, but i liked messing around with the engines, here is what i used, i used two so far.

Blender

Blender is a very basic engine , you can make great models with it and also while its free, some of the models you make turn out pretty good (the one on this video is an old build , this engine is upgraded now)

DK (Unreal Engine 3)

you probably know this engine, its pretty popular , and that is for a reason , this engine is probably the easiest to use, and is free, almost all indie developers use it, and while it may look a bit outdated (and very ugly), it gets the job done, and has cool effects!

Note that all these Engines are FREE , thought the unreal engine, i don't think you can make a game out of it without Epic's approval, i could be wrong though.

so what engine did you use at one point?

Around the Network

since this thread is down , and needs a bump.
i'll fill in a little trivia , the first model i made is a mario head that animates (no voice though)

I've build levels for Quake, Doom, Unreal and Undying as well as Half Life and Deus Ex, so a lo of Unreal engine plus some Id engines and Source.

I've also built some dungeons for Oblivion but never fully finished them - I realised I just didn't have time to spare for making stuff anymore.

Best accomplishment, coming second place in a level building competition and getting some nice comments from the developers.

I'd love to have the time to actually build more but I've had to let it go. I did download the latest Unreal SDK to play with a bit, but haven't really done much more than that. BTW you can use it to build anything that is non-commercial I believe (I never really read the terms fully but just skimmed it).

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I haven't used any (unless you count making levels in Little Big Planet or attempting to make a scenario in Age of Empires 2), but I've really been interested in dabbling in it as I'd like to be able to know how to model stuff and use it in video production.

nice ill be using a free engine for my project next year ;) hopefully if i learn to use one of these from now id be pro when i start the project :D
