Perhaps I chose this figure arbitrarily, but I'd decided that the PS3 sales will be okay if they manage to best the 360's sales figures from last November.

Those figures were 511k, according to the NPD. Thus far, the PS3 is at 400k+, and appears to be comfortably ahead of the pace.

Any comments -- did I choose this benchmark too arbitrarily? Am I calling this too soon? Let's start the conversation with me saying that PS3 sales are decent for this month in the US.

I expect nest year will be SONY'S year to play catch up.

Seems like a fair comparison to me. Although, I would be more concerned with how it's doing directly against the 360, as comparing it to past numbers isn't going to do much. If the 360 keeps outselling it, the comparisons won't matter as the 360 will always be ahead.

(as of the current week's numbers, the 360 is up on the PS3 by about 50k, which I can see the PS3 making up in Japan.)

Well for any "catch up" to happen, they have to outsell the 360 weekly now. Not last years numbers. So far, Sony closed the gap by 10k in the last 2 weeks and thats it.

Absolutely -- if the question was: "Is the PS3 beating the 360?" then the relevant statistic would be 360's figures this year in November, not last year.

However, if we're just asking: "Is the PS3 still relevant? Are sales high enough to justify continued support of the system?" Then I think such a comparison is valid.

Is it really fair? Im not American but wasn't Black Friday in December last year? If so than it is not very fair.

People have been saying this for how long now? Upwards of...8 months? Once it fell behind and it was clear it wasn't coming back. lol.

This isn't Sony hate, it's simply social commentary on how people will always be optimistic about things they really want to do well.
