Hmm, that would explain the waiting then but that still doesn't excuse the one small place they tell you that and then never mention the odd control mechanic again.  A suppose a simple control scheme page would have easily fixed that problem.

This game's lack of any kind of tutorial whatsoever is unforgivable. I hate walking into a situation knowing that I'm supposed to do something and then being forced to hammer on buttons to figure out how it works.

Or check out my new webcomic: http://selfcentent.com/

i dont like gerenades either and i sorta found out u had to press it twice by accident..

Yeah, that was pretty aggrevating.  I actually started the game once, completed the first level and then actually decided to start over because I didn't like my original character and I missed a few things (like grenades).  The first time it had me hack I completely missed it and was fairly pissed off.

Believe me, that review was only a small portion of the long laundry list of gripes about that game but some of those were just personal taste and others revealed spoilers so I held back a little.

Sounds like Bioware made another outstanding game, but maybe got too ambitious in the graphics department. Hopefully, in fact, almost certainly, they'll have them all worked by before ME2 hits. Wish I had a 360 to play it. :(

.......So not holding your hand through a game is a problem?

I had litterally no issues figuring out anything without a tutorial. It's fairly simple. That's why there's a thing called a "manual". It explains much of the game aspects. Really, it's a wonderful tool. It clocks in at 40+ pages, so it's not like they skimped.

Are there frame rate issues? Yes, but I have yet to really notice them. I'm sure if your a graphics/frame rate whore, you'll get upset, but KOTOR was the same way. No game has really tried to have this huge of scale, it's going to fall short with certain graphical issues. I don't see the PC or PS3 trying to make a game of this depth right now. Yes, Crysis is great, but you need a $2000 computer to run it anywhere near full-res....And your playing a game like ME on a $300 Xbox 360.

The fact is, the gameplay and design is revolutionary, bar none. It lacks the polish of bioshock, but makes up for it in sheer innovation.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

It does have a mini tutorial though it goes fast and doesn't help much I guess.  I personally didn't even read the manual and a friend just explain to me how to use my powers quick and I was all set.  Seriously is not that hard though I guess I am spolied after playing so many rpgs in my lifetime.

Again I can only go by what my friends and I experienced and so far you don't hear us whining about framerate or bugs etc because they are far and between at least for us.  The textures loading for like 2-5 seconds is there though blame the unreal 3 engine for that.  Seriously you going to complain about a few seconds for the texctures load when you can go for hours withtout it happening again.

Still don't get why you keep on saying this shouldn't have been made for the 360 like the game is not playable LOL.  Check out the reviews and you will see MOST agree with me and the few technical issue are hugely overshadowed by the story, immersion, and yes even graphics the game provides.

Honestly there needs to be a demo for this game and let people decide for themselves.  I think most will not be dissapointed.

I don't think a game should hold your hand but I do think it should have a decent tutorial or at the very least have a controller page that tells you the controls. I figured the controls would be in the manual, but most people don't read manuals (we're guys, it's like asking for directions). Personally, I don't like walking across the room to open my game case because I'm lazy. Having a simple screen showing you the controller buttons would completely eradicate my complaints about the confusing control scheme (though not control scheme in general).

It's been a while since I played KotoR but I don't remember it having the frame rate issues you're talking about. I'm not saying it didn't, I'm just saying it wasn't bad enough to make it stick out in my mind. Mass Effect has bad frame rate throughout the entire game. It never gets so bad that the game is unplayable, but it doesn't change the fact it's there.

And yeah, this game could be made on the computer and you would have to an uber rig to play it but that's the game they chose to make. Personally, I would rather wait for a smoother experience or play it on a system that let me choose the detail level so I didn't have those problems. I am playing Mass Effect on a $300 system, but that doesn't change the fact it plays like crap.

The fact is, the gameplay and design is revolutionary, bar none. It lacks the polish of bioshock, but makes up for it in sheer innovation.

I completely agree the game is revolutionary but that doesn't automatically make it great. I think it is a great starting point and they will learn from all these mistakes to make Mass Effect 2 an incredible game.

The game was just too much for the 360 to handle at the current time. I'm not saying the 360 is bad or it should have been made on something else, it's just they either should have waited for the technology or scaled down the game to run smoothly.

You say that you experience the LOD problem once every few hours (so you saw it, what, 7 times?), I saw it every time I changed rooms. If it really was once every few hours I wouldn't say anything and neither would other reviewers, things like this only get mentioned as much as it does because it is a problem.

And yes, Mass Effect does have an insane awesome story and universe, but the immersion is shattered by the controls that take you out of the game, bad frame rate, and LOD models being late. I suppose this can be blamed on UE3 but Bioware is the one that decided to go with the engine, make the game as large as they did, and release the game when they did.

-edit-

And as for the controls, I made sure to ask my buddies what they thought of the various control like the biotecs and grenades to make sure I wasn't crazy and they echoed my opinions.
