Forums - Gaming - New Bungie IP to be an action RPG, suggests job listing

Well now, this has me interested. Although this hasn't really narrowed down what the game could play like:

Deus Ex/System Shock 2?
Mass Effect?
Diablo?
Witcher?
God of War style with more RPG elements?

Need more info!

Mass Effect is the exact opposite direction rpgs in general should be heading, so if Bungie is my friend they will make an awesome action rpg that is not primarily a shooter... that is, if they make an action rpg at all, otherwise I don't care what they do.

I totally agree with the ME point. I LOVE action RPG's. Fallout 3 is up there as one of my all time favorite top 3 single player games of all time. It might even be number one. But I just didn't like ME at all. Too much action and not nearly enough RPG imho.

If Bungie did make and action RGP, god I hope so, I would be so psyched! Thank god there done with that generic Halo shit. Don't get me wrong I played Halo 1, on the pc, and I liked it. They are good games but there also the most overhyped games ever, even more than the Final Fantasy games, and thats saying something.

So if this is true, it will be very welcome refreshing news and I can't wait for a bungie game. Wow that sounds so weird to me lol.

A game can be a RPG in many different ways (for me atleast). It can have a simulation world with lots of costumization to play your own role like Fable 2. It could allow you a lot of freedom to do different things then other players and through that create your own role such as Oblivion. Ot it could allow you to make your own decisions and though that shape the role you play in the story like Mass Effect (or an other Bioware RPGs for that matter).

The problem with the ''action RPG'' genre is that it most of the times is a action game that allows you to put some experience towards certain skills. Often even allowing you to max all skills leading to no costumization at all. Mass Effect is close to this aswell but it retains its RPG classification (for me atleast) by allowing you to shape your role through choices.

So if Activision is expecting to defeat the likes of Fable, Mass Effect, Oblivion or even Fallout 3 then they better realize that it needs to offer something besides leveling and experience to do so. The game won't fail sales-wise with Bungie's fame and if they are lucky a marketing campaign that rivals that of Halo 3, but still the game could be known as a flop for being a action game that claimed to be so much more (for example: claming to be a Oblivion killer).

That job listing has been there for AGES. I've had that as a bookmark in my firefox for at least several months... as I was thinking of applying, so nothing new about it

Action RPG. I'm interested rightaway.

Well I certainly do believe an RPG franchise could expand to have a very large universe and bigger than the Halo Universe in which Bungie is aiming for.

I have a hunch that it'll be Activisons take on EA's Mass Effect.

Set in the Halo universe?

Microsoft owns the rights to halo so whatever bungie comes up with it will be set in a new universe and will have nothing to do with halo.

If it is a action rpg then it would be good for the genre because right now there are fewer rpgs being made. Since bungie is a big name if they make a good game and it becomes successful it could bring more attention to the rpg genre and encourage more developers to make them.

RPGs hmm. Ok Im interested now.

Writers...We all know Halo was 100% story.  They do not need this.

just because it's bungie doesn't mean the game will be good. if it was an fps, then fps fans would be excited. noway that it will top me2

Being in 3rd place never felt so good
