Forums - Nintendo - Have the Wii's graphic limits caused it to have more "evergreen" titles?

congrats on their success, but seriously if that success would bring us more good games.

not progressing though, it's not what i think any gamer would happen, nintendo it's focusing on their profits.

and it's this competition of "graphics" or games, that make games get better, so far this gen games like uncharted 2, god of war 3, gears, that not only have great graphics, but are also fun to play and have engaging story.
@montono, let's face it, humanity it's easily gullible.

It's very simple really... Wii and DS are targeted primarily at the "casual audience"... the casual audience doesn't troll video game websites on a daily basis or argue about graphics and which system is better... they simply buy what everyone else buys, which is why the same titles in the Wii's library are at the top of the heap, week after week and year after year.

This is the same reason why movies like the latest Twilight or Harry Potter films, and other hits like "The Dark Knight", and "Avatar" have such long legs at the box office.. because after all of the fanboys and movie geeks see it opening weekend, all of the casuals follow suit due to word of mouth and wanting to be a part of the latest fad or trend. Same concept with the Wii, and to a lesser extent the DS.

The "casual" audience is really what we should call the "mainstream" audience. I hate the word "casual" because it makes these people sound stupid and gullible as if they only really buy games like lemmings falling off a cliff. It's far from the truth. These are really the most cautious customers that are less influenced by hype and more influenced by actual playing time and recommendations from friends and family.

Indeed.  The term casual itself was only created by the quote 'hardcore' reviewers and internet forum hoppers as stated above in order to distinguish the other side from the 'hardcore' gamer.  Its just like those who call anything that is 'family oriented' or not focused solely on the adult audience as being 'kiddy'.  Just because something is popular and sells well to people beyond 14-26 year old males, doesn't make it 'casual'.  You certainly wouldn't call a Pixar movie casual.  Or even better, an iphone.

As such, many Wii and DS games get labeled with that kiddy/casual rating.  But its mostly just coming from that same 'hardcore' camp as negative propaganda for anything that isn't solely targeting them.

I personally don`t like the war that self-proclaimed `hardcore`gamers have waged against so-called `casual`gamers. Video games are about providing entertainment. And each person has different tastes and ideas of what they consider entertaining.

Honestly these shit-talking `hardcore`gamers who bash the Wii and DS aren`t `hardcore` to begin with. They just don`t like the Wii because it`s not HD. I`ve already had some debates with these type of `hardcore`gamers IRL. And it generally goes like this...

`hardcore`gamer: The Wii is a kiddie console.

Me: What about No More Heroes, Madworld, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, The Conduit, Dead Space Extraction? (with any luck, they might be able to recognize some of these titles. Some  don`t even know that popular franchises like Resident Evil and Silent Hill are on the Wii)

`hardcore`gamer: But those games aren`t in HD. Last gen graphics.

The Wii and (especially) DS have a shitload of `core`games. But because they are graphically inferior, most of the HD fanboys aren`t gonna care. Their loss.

^many of those games are on HD console, they are not only superior in graphics, have more gameplay options and online multiplayer.

you are limiting yourself if you think it's just "graphics".

You just named 3 of the HD games I would not buy if I had the system, i'll agree uncharted and sequel are beautiful though.

If I hadn't already been a Nintendo fan I wouldn't have even known about the Last Guardian... but having played Zeldas, then yes if I had a PS3 I would be buying The Last Guardian.

And I don't like the look of neither God, nor Gears of War, and I certainly wouldn't describe them as beautiful.

Well, its a little bit more complicated than that.  Hold overs from last gens 'hardcore' debates.  Such as specific genres/companies/systems being more 'hardcore' while others aren't (mostly Nintendo always being in the 'not hardcore' pile).  Plus, the fact that games for the HD systems get the vast majority of the hype and advertising, as they did from the start of this gen with the Wii hardly getting any games at all for the first 2-3 years.  So, there's definitely more to it than just the fact that the PS3/360 has more graphical abilities.  I mean, if that was all there was to it, then the PC would be dominating every gen.

Frankly, its just a big collection of conflicting views that, like many extremes, people who consider themselves 'hardcore' have built up to try to make themselves feel better for hating other kinds of games.  Its more of my view that those types of gamers spend more time arguing about what type of game is 'acceptable' with people online or in public.  While people who play games on the Wii and DS are spending the majority of their time well, playing games.  In the end, are you really going to bother arguing with someone who thinks Mario Galaxy sucks or are you just going to laugh and go back to your game?

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I don't agree that gears is "beatiful" but it has a very nice and dirty art style... but god of war is BEAUTIFUL, if you could only play it for an hour you would agree, it's just jaw dropping beuty all over. Same with Uncharted 2

Just to give people an idea of how monster good Nintendo games are even back on the NES, 3D Dot Game Hero, nuff said, even to this day, they are being copied.

@Xoj
No More Heroes: The Ps360 port doesn`t have motion controls. Motion controls really added to the game. It may seem gimmicky but it is surprisingly fun delivering deathblows with the wiimote. No More Heroes wasn`t designed for the gamepad. If you wanted to play a gamepad beat-em-up, you`d be better off playing Bayonetta or something (I would still play Heroes Paradise for the acheivements though. I like NMH that much. lol) And Heroes Paradise will probably stay in Japan unfortunately.

Dead Space and Dead Space Extraction are two completely different games and offer two very different experiences.

And the Wii`s Resident Evil remakes and rail shooters are not the same as Resident Evil 5. Different games. Different experience.

Of course RE5 will be patched with PS Move support after PS Move comes out. But that just makes this whole thing much more amusing. The same gamers who talked mad shit about motion controls when the Wii did it are now changing their tune now that Sony is trying to cash in on the motion control craze that Nintendo made popular.
