Forums - General - How Jar Jar Binks could have been better

How could Jar Jar Binks have been a better character? I have an idea, and it involves Carbon Monoxide poisoning in the first scene.

Also, WTF was the deal with Qui Gon Jin? What a pointless character he was. They should have combined him with Obi Wan Kenobi to form a new character called Obi Wan Kenobi.

That would have cleared up the continuity problem of Obi-wan's apparent age in Phantom Menace vs his apparent age in New Hope. He looked to be in his mid 70s in IV, but early 20s in I, but the problem is it's only 32 years between them, not 52...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Gee, at least credit those jokes.

Haha, I guess you saw the Youtube video too. No need to get uppity about it Monty, I'm just sharing.

I... did hate Jar Jar Binks.

he would've been a better character if he was more like Chewy. Gosh, I think Chewy is my favorite character from the first films.

The prequels needed someone as bad-ass as him.

I agree that Qui Gon was an empty character, but I think he was necessary in order for us to at least feel like Obi Wan wasn't always the stoic and calm mentor he was for the later 5 movies. At least it doesn't feel like he randomly jumped to Ben Kenobi.

I'm not getting uppity about it. It just seemed kind of shameless.

Samuel L. Jackson should have played Jar Jar Binks and Jar Jar Binks should have played the role of Mace Windu.

I perceive no inherent flaw on Jar Jar Binks character.

Nice try, but /thread

He is annoying as fuck and the only way he would have been tolerable is if he didn't speak.

I don't remember much about the movie since it has been so long since I've seen it but people do tend to make certain characters worse than they really are. A good example is Tidus, the protagonist of Final Fantasy X. To this day, there are people who think he is really annoying and whiny despite the fact that he is one of the most out going protagonists in the series. Yes, I have played FFX if anyone is asking.

It wouldn't be suprising if Jar Jar was annoying considering how bad Lucas is at writing dialogue. Many of the actors in the movies even complained about how terrible his writing his and even Lucas admits it. At best, his writing without the use of editors can be described as lifeless and stilted. He's especially bad at romantic dialogue with one them involving Anakin(?) talking about sand.
