Forums - Microsoft - marketshare in japan

I don't think it will go over 2m. It took it 4 years to get to 1m so it could take another 4 years to get to 2m and most likely 360 will fade out by that time when the new console come out. Natal might help it sale more but I have a feeling they will be into PS Move more.

Not going to happen. Most of those 1.2 million sales were in a fairly short timeframe when MS managed to get lots of exclusive JRPGs. Now these have been ported to the PS3 and the 360 has few new exclusives - it's sales plumeted since

I honestly can see a fancy dating Simulator, Natal exclusive, doing wonders for the console there.

2.5 M is a terrible number, but considering it for the console in question and the territory, that's a good number I guess...

Maybe - but not at current rate of weekly sales unless the 360 is on the market for a long time in Japan.

I actually wonder whether it's worth MS time in Japan. They got to just over 1.2 million but it required a lot of exclusives or timed exclusive of jRPG titles plus a heck of a lot of marketing, advertising, etc. In other words so far as I can see MS must have spent a fortune for very little return and to end up way behind anyway.

Looking at things as they stand if I was MS I'd release in Japan of course, but I'd focus that kind of money and effort on US/Europe and look to grow my global market-share figures from those territories.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

it will depend on Natal otherwise it will be tough for them to break 2 million by the end of the gen

Unfortunately, MS cant really do anything to make itself a primary to gamers who buy it. The PS3 is selling very well, and just about all 360 owners own a PS3.

Natal will be important, but i guess the best thing MS can walk away with this generation is that theyve hugely improved the image of the XBOX there.

what about monster hunter fronteir console exclusive and the other 3 exclusive titles do u think these will help over in the rising sun or be the same trend that it been having

Microsoft gave Japan some great games including 360 exclusive JRPG yet it did little. But you can't blame the Japanese for having some nationalistic pride. Afterall two of the three biggest players worldwide are from Japan. One hardcore and the other arguably more mainstream so there isn't a single market in Japan that needs the 360 for their gaming needs.

Natal is really the first unique thing Microsoft will release that could appeal to the Japanese. If it is a big hit then the 360 could easily replace some Wii's in Japan. But Sony has their PS Move and will probably get more coverage thus more sales over there. The only way Microsoft has a true shot is if the PS Move cant compete with Natal but that is doubtful as both techs have unique selling points.

Its taken them 4 year to get where they are now, so no way are they gonna break 2 million

It's pretty unheard of to see a late port drive any hardware - MHfrontier has been on PC for some time now, and 'console exclusives' don't usually drive hardware (unless of course the PC version is a late or bad port)

What other 3 exclusive titles btw?
