Forums - Nintendo - How much money do they actually print?

I'm quite certain that the profits generated from the GC hardware and software were equal to or greater than Sony's profits derived from the PS2.

Nintendo, after all, has the highest profit to employee ratio on the planet.  $1.6 million profit per.

What is the source?

All the data comes from the quarterly reports from each company.

Nintendo has never posted a full year loss in over 120 years of operation and they have only every had one negative quarter.

Even more insanse is the fact that that 1 single quarter loss was not due to a real profit loss but due to the Dollar to Yen exchange rate negating the profits generated that quarter.

Pfff, excuses.... they should have seen it coming :P

^Yeah

But Nintendo aside, the SEGA column is impressive when compared to Sony's and Microsoft's. I mean, up to 2009 SEGA had made more money with videogames than Sony. But the worst part is just how low their loss was compared to those of Microsoft, and they're the one out of buisness. How is it even possible for Microsoft to loose so much money?

Because they make 10 times that in profits across the whole company.  Sega's losses were comapny wide, not just 1 division as it is with MS.

Yeah, I know, I was just putting it in perspective, and when I asked how could the burn so much money, I didn't mean how could the stand it, but where did they spend so much they lost 9 billion bucks while still selling respectable numbers.

Bad contracts with nVidia and their HDD supplier. Both refused to decrease the costs to MS of their supplied components. This is why MS pushed out the X360 and canceled production of the old Xbox so fast.

How can you be so sure? The PS2 continues making profits after all. I am no industry insider but looking at the profits/loss changes over the years I figure the PS1 made about $5billion, the PS2 about $4billion, PSP about $1 billion and the PS3 has eaten all that away. (thank god HW is finally profiting)

I really doubt the GC made anything near $4billion, tbh i'd be suprised if the GCs share exceeded $1.5billion.... after all the profits madeduring the GCs lifespan (FY2002 through 2007) were $6.5 billion, and the majority of the later years will be from the DS, and the earlier years from the GBA.

Oh, that sucks :)

I'll grant you the PS2 continues to sell and obtain profits though I was locking in the time frame prior to the launch fo the PS3/Wii.  I should have clairifed that.

Though you also have to consider the PS sold quite well into the early years of the PS2 accounting for a big portion of those profits.  And don't forget the PSP.....such as it is.

Yes I was accounting for those (though until the last couple of years I don't think the PSP was making any profit, which means it would have been dragging the PS2 down)

I could still be really high on my estimations of the PS2, and really low on GC and I still don't think they would meet, even if ignoring the last 3 years for PS2. It doesn't stop the GC profits being impressive in comparison (coming close to 1/2 of the total profits while only selling 1/7th the hw&sw)
