Forums - Gaming - Toshiba shows 21" glasses-free 3D screen

http://www.tmdisplay.com/tm_dsp/press/2010/10-04-27_e.html

It's the same tech as is expected to be seen in the 3DS with layers in the screen providing the 3D effect.

There are nine layers.

The resolution is 1280*800

The viewing angle is ±15 degrees (horizontal).

Pretty sweet, though I don't know if it would be compatible with existing 3D content (enlightenment please?). Let's get to the glasses-free 3D future soon!

Really?
Well mainstream producers still going on glasses though

Looks interesting - could this be the technology in place on the Nintendo hand-held?

This still has a minor case of the sucks (15 degree viewing angle), but improvement is improvement - this is the first I've heard about this tech for screens larger than about 4 inches. Keep up the good work Toshiba

99.9% chance of a yes to that. No official confirmation though afaik

The Layer-technology sounds expensive. it's like having one screen for the price of nine

i have doubts that Nintendo picks up on something like that. I'd rather expect a conventional screen with a tracking solution.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Technology is amazing, isn't it?

The problem with 3D that uses glasses is that for each person viewing you need a pair. If you're gonna, say, throw a super bowl party, then it's pretty much a no go unless you want to buy 10 pairs of glasses. Autosterescopic tech (like this, but not necessarily this implementation) needs to get here fast.

Why do you guys think 3DS will have over the top cutting edge tech ? i don't see it happening nintendo doesn't do expensive stuff lately.

On Topic : this is why i don't want a 3D tv sooner or later it will evolve.

Because it's the most obvious solution to creating 3D on handheld.
