Forums - Microsoft - New releases for XBox Live Game Room "Delayed until further notice"

Here is the story:

Microsoft feels it is a good idea to have an version of the virtual console for the 360, in the form of Game Room.  They then release it, and say things, then reality is different (like talk of Double Dragon coming out), and they delay new releases for a month.  From here, they go into "Delayed until further notice".  The company they had doing the work, Krome, lays off a bunch of people.  And now, Game Room is in limbo.

I am at a loss to find the right words to describe the level of fail manifested in this.

And here is one of multiple articles on this:

My God, Game Room has to be the biggest mound of suck I have ever experienced. Only a handful of games from before the Nes era are still playable. Hell, most of the games from the Nes era aged like crap, too. Whoever thought that people wanted to use their super powered HD console to play 1983 garbage....let me just calm down.

Worst idea ever. Bad Microsoft. Bad.

*Sigh* You think MS would of been a little more prepared to launch this...

and where the hell are my free Avatar Clothes and new features?

This thing is horrible, I deleted that crap from my Hard Drive after trying it once. Basically a waste of space.

clearly, it wasnt attracting the sort of response they were hoping for. they should have put it out with some good games. thats probably their biggest mistake.

It comes down to pricing. It was too much for too little.

Many of the Intellivision games have been released for every last generation system and the Xbox version was patched to work with the 360. So you could have a collection of 60 titles for $5 used at Gamestop or pay $3-$5 per enhanced title.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

To go even further than that, Intellivision Lives is an Xbox Original. You can buy it for $15 right in the marketplace and it comes with 60+ games, including I believe every game available in the Game Room.

How can you cock up something as simple as this.

Find good, high selling games from the past and put them on. You don't need an entire company. You need a few people with a high CHA score to negotiate deals with 3rd partiesa, and 1 or 2 people who can operate a computer without electrocuting themselves

To each his own, I find it enjoyable to play older retro games I never had the chance to play (until now of course).  I'm not exactly impressed by any means but it's certainly an enjoyable experience imo.

I got one of the greatest retro buzz ever from Game Room.  It was comparible to Retro Game Challenge on the DS, where it did a decent job bringing back the past and motivating one to play old stuff.  But now, they apparently can't even get this right.  I hope a byproduct is that companies don't expect they can hire companies that are laying off, and expect to get quality results as the outcome.

As far as stability and delivery goes, the Virtual Console delivered in spades over Game Room.  Yes, Game Room generates a better buzz, but the Virtual Console is far more reliable.  It has problems with Neo-Geo stuff, but the rest is good.

People say the price point was too high.  However, I could also argue that it is hard to get people willing to sell their older, high selling games at $3 a pop.  That is the problem.  Compare the virtual console game prices to that of Game Room, and you see what companies were looking for.  That is $5 and up for NES and beyond.  Even Commodore 64 stuff went for $5 a pop.  And you didn't even get the same features as you do with Game Room.  Anyone think you would get Neo-Geo stuff at $3 a pop?
