Forums - Sony - Ninja Theory: 'PS3 Doesn't Scare Us Anymore'

Ninja Theory's PS3 debut Heavenly Sword may have received mixed review scores at launch, but there was no denying it was a technical marvel. Their next game Enslaved looks to raise the bar yet again.

Speaking to NowGamer, chief design ninja Tameem Antoniades said, "When we went into this project instead of starting from scratch with absolutely nothing we had a much clearer idea of what we wanted to do and how we could do it. The PS3 didn't scare us anymore because we were so used to it, so it's been a lot smoother."

One of the most prolific and talented new UK developers, Ninja Theory set a new benchmark in cut scene direction and motion capture with Heavenly Sword, thanks largely to Andy 'Gollum' Serkis.

“we had a much clearer idea of what we wanted to do”

Antoniades continues, "I think a lot of the games that were announced back then were tainted by that negativity about the price of the console and the things people were saying about it".

Working closely with the film industry, 28 Days Later and Sunshine script writer Alex garland no less, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West will repeat and improve on Heavenly Sword's technical prowess.

With a new-found comfort zone and the making of a superb new game, we'll be keeping a close eye on Enslaved going forward.

Did you play Heavenly Sword? Were you impressed by its visual standards? We were, check out our review here.

It seems like more and more devs are getting comfortable with the PS3.

Thats great news, Heavenly sword was indeed a great game but rather short.

I'll be looking forward to their next project hope it does better than Heavenly Sword. Always good to see people are more comfortable with what they are working with.

HS was an excellent game, but unfortunatly no replayability

it looks so good that it would get good marks for grafix today, great story and gameplay

i wish for a sequel one day

That's why sony makes difficult to program systems, dev's keep getting better and games keep getting better so you dont ask for a new console because quality keeps going up. The ps2 was exactly the same way. I was very hard for developers when it was released. At year ten of the ps3 multithreaded programming on 8 cores will be fairly standard.

Just off the PR bus, I see.

Argh, they used "going forward" in an article. Bad enough when people use it speaking off the cuff. Might as well write "ummmm" when you get to a part in a write up where you need to pause and think of what you're going to write next.

OT: an intriguing sounding title. I liked HS so they have the talent to make a good game.
