Forums - Gaming - Why all the Assassin's Creed 1 hate?

Seriously, so many people recommend Assassin's Creed 2 and says skip the first one..

I know the first one was repetitive as hell, and you don't "really" need to play the first one to understand the "Main Story arc" in AC2, however, I think if I would have jumped into AC2 without playing AC1 the "Desmond" part's of AC2 would not have made as much sense, I think that AC1 you really got to know Desmond, in AC2 not so much.

Plus you do not "need" to do all the repetitive missions in AC1 to do the game, but seriously, come on!  How can you not like assassinating guards?!

(Plus the game is like $30 now)

Thoughts?

Unicorns ARE real - They are just fat, grey and called Rhinos

I personally loved the first Assassin's Creed. Repetitive yes but then again I don't mind repetitive game as long as the gameplay is fun.

I approve of this thread. I loved the first Assassin's Creed. Anyone who says to skip it can eat rug. And i do not mean the good kind 0_o

Most the time one thing isn't enouph to ruin a game for me, however I'm a gamer that has to do all the sidequests in a mission and the reptitiveness of the game was so bad that I dropped it down from a 93 to a 80.....yes 13 whole points.

Everything else was good, but I'm not going to give a game that looks like it was carved by god if all you do is "Press X to make character wave"

CURRENTLY PLAYING:  Warframe, Witcher 2

I dunno. A lot of games from 2006 and 2007 haven't aged that well, which is sad considering it's only been a couple years. I recently played the first Uncharted and Gears of War, and I was really unimpressed. Still, I thought Assassin's Creed was fantastic when I first played it, and I still think that. The repetition is actually pretty fun if you're going for achievements.

AC 1 is not super bad. But considering it got some 9s and higher by some major reviewers (no names) and the fact that that game deserves a 7 at the most, i can see why some people got pissed. AC2 is easily one of the most improved sequels this generation.

The first game isn't as bad as some people make it out to be, but its definitely one of the most over reviewed games ever. By that i mean its obvious that some reviewers where paid or w/e to give it higher scores than it deserved (even though a lot of reviewers gave it an honest review).

repetitive ? yes
gameplay ? fantastic

Enjoyed every second. It's still in my top 10 games of this generation.

I really liked AC1 (and its $20 not $30). Repetitive, sure, but most games are and like most games the repetition got slightly more complicated.

Story was kinda interesting too. I really like the psuedo historical aspects. Most people don't realize where the origins of certain words come from like 'Assassin'.

DEFINITELY NOT.

It has a 81 on Metacritic. That's hardly an achievement nowadays.

It deserves AT LEAST a 7. Any guy that gives a significantly lower score has no credibility.

AC1 is my all time favorite game. a little repetitive but the story, historical setting, gameplay, open world, crowd elements and overall awesomeness just totally won me over, you just felt like part of the world. not to mention it gave birth to AC2
