Probably doesn't help either that he still has a contract from the Enix days as well... god knows what's in that.

Square products still tend to be Square managed still, while Enix's products still tend to be managed in that Enix way... which, Enix being less a vidoegame publisher and more, just a company trying to do as many things as possible to make profit... they just let the independent studios have free reign and collected checks.

The company that publish games is the one that always has the most copyright?  Where in the world did you get that idea?

That's not even REMOTELY true... I mean, to even use Dragon Quest as an example... Nintendo has published it.  They just published DQ9... and additionally published DQ1.  They don't hold any copyright.


Another example.  Half Life was published by Sierra... they certaintly didn't have any say where Valve put the rest of the Half Life Games... and they're even listed on the copyright.

Most publishers only own a copyright for the specific game they are publishing.  Square likely has more control then your average publisher, but don't go making stuff up just because you want to be right.

They probably have a deal inbetween a regular publisher and how Square controls it's own titles.

It'd be nice but Square seems to have really dragged their feet with their big titles lately. Who knows if this will ever come out.

Well like someone else said, this is what us KOTOR fans feel like, seriously Obsidian or Bioware or even Lucasarts themselves... pick up the lightsaber and do what should be done!! so should Capcom, pick up the Oni Gauntlet and get Onimusha back on track with Samanosuke kicking Genma ass again! oh and of course KH3 needs to appear soon, now i wasn't a fan of this series as i didn't like the Disney thing but come on, i can just about wait 3 - 4 years for an FF, 5 years!!!! 5 years!!!! come on Tetsuya pick up the KeyBlade.

They had 4 planned....2 revealed (Versus XIII & Agito XIII) -- They had a powerpoint slide with FFXIII in the middle & 4 circles coming off it...1 had Versus XIII in it, the other had Agito XIII in it....so 2 left.

The other two haven't been revealed yet.

I don't think back in 2006 they thought it would take 4 years for FF13 itself to come out....and Versus & Agito's dev time is getting to be ridiculously big, and we are forgetting that there are 2 MORE that weren't announced.

especially Agito....seriously will that game even make money for them....it won't sell much in the west with PSP's situation right now. By the time its out Japan will be going crazy for 3DS!

I dunno.  I've found multiple other message board refrences to the "10 years of spinoffs" since I posted that.

So clearly they've said that somewhere.  Don't know how else as i'd be under the same impression as random people on Gamespot forums and such.

I've no idea how ownership actually breaks down (and doubt anyone here does), but it's patently clear that Hori's in control.  Wada isn't.

Also, no DQ games released on DS before 2008 except an ARPG spinoff (Rocket Slime) and a Monsters game (Joker).  Funny enough, Wii's also already had an ARPG spinoff (Swords) and is about to get a Monsters game (Battle Road Victory)... anyone else notice a pattern? ;)

Things can change... but let's be realistic, they're not changing that much.  The Wii/PS3 dynamic today is basically exactly like DS/PSP was in 2008.  DS got DQIX exclusively in 2009, Wii will get DQX exclusively in 2011.  PSP never saw a Dragon Quest game, PS3 will never see a DQ game either.  That's just how it is...
