Art can not be compared to another piece of art and proclaimed better.

video games go far and beyond what art is doing , they incorporate every single medium of imagination, creation and execution.
and your comment about art cannot be compared to another piece of art and proclaimed better is not true art can be judged like anything else but its all subjective in the end, just like comparing graphics in a game , some people think UC2 is the best while others think something like flower or braid is more suited to there taste of whats "better".
look at the mona lisa or michealangelos david they are replicating the human form to its essence , so in videogames are we not taking that even further with technology , we are creating life like characters and worlds that do not exist in reality to me thats taking the "art" to a whole new level with the tools to make it a reality and the imagination needed to make it believeable.
art is essentially the beginning and end of creation in my eyes , look at modern art some of it is so basic like a few colored squares or lines some people will argue that it is not considered art, but if you as a person can truley define art then you are a god.
roger ebert says videogames are not art i personally think he feels intellectually threatened by the industry cause he doesnt truley understand the creation and "artists" behind them. He is not a stupid guy in anyway but i do feel he has an old fashioned view and his ego is holding him back from accepting something that clearly is in the realm of art
