That's a Eurogamer article by Richard Leadbetter on how he expects FFXIII to turn out (written before it was released to the press for review). It's been wholly taken out of context. However Eurogamer got it wrong as the final 360 FFXIII turned out to be much worse. |
And actually Alan Wake doesn't do 'proper HDR' neither like Eurogamer was referring to.
But the first Uncharted game already proved the PS3 to be more powerful with regard to this in 2007, it proved 720p with anti-aliasing and proper HDR could be done on the PS3 with impressive results. Uncharted 2 of course took things further in many different ways (hence all those rewards) and God of War 3 does MLAA on the Cell processor with overall superior results.
Although the PS3 is more powerful for rendering graphics, its strong points compared to the 360 are mainly related to more storage capacity (which allows for higher quality [and/or more varierty of] textures, audio, different languages, game content, etc) and far more processing power which can be used for building more complex and dynamic gaming worlds. I just want to say, PS3 power isn't all about just better achievable rendering results.
Though it will be interesting to see how well future stereoscopic 3D games will be optimised, to render for both eyes seperate screens is quite a performance hurdle. On the 360 even if it supported the required HDMI bandwidth, the 360 simply isn't capable enough to produce impressive results due to the EDRAM limitations. The PS3 is capable, but it's still going to take time and determination.
