You are so gonna get eaten alive here.

That's good though.  We like crushing peoples' hopes and dreams.

Bingo just get used to the fact that wii fans dominate here (360 fan here, soon to be wii this christmas, and ps3 soon or next christmas)

You either agree or get crushed, its sad. You either say nintendo rules or get banned (i kidd) but seriously their domination is unquestionable.

BTW ignore my spelling and errors, i really dont care, i can barely stand english class as it is. Actually im doing a paper as we speak /sigh

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Proud supporter of all 3 console companys

Proud owner of 360wii and DS/psp

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Bump.

Doesn't it just warm you heart to see a Helghast bleed to death :)

The motion capturing is excellent, look at his hand, it doesn't glitch through the ground,  it actually looks like he puts weight on it.

They look very nice, I just have a problem with the realistic direction. I play games because they don't look realistic.

I was talking to my brother in law about it I'm a gamer for about 17 years he's a gamer for about...30 and we were discussing how people always see these sports games and say "Woah, in a couple years they'll look just like real life." We were unanimous in our statement that if it got to that point we'd rather just watch the sports than play the game.

Better graphics are great but when they make them too realistic they're lost on me in all honesty... I can go back an play Tetris to this day, I can go back and play Space invaders or Super Mario Bros. 3 I have a tough time doing the same thing with Playstation 1 games...I dunno is it just me?

As a side note their faces are a little weird to me, they look realistic but ridiculously fake at the same time..

I’m on the other side of the coin, I have a PS3 precisely because I want games to be realistic. It’s probably a desire to do things that I would probably never get the chance to do in real life, whether that be driving some vehicle of at ridiculous speeds, or blowing up tons of enemy soldiers in a hail of rapid fire rounds, or hacking some undead creature to death with a spoon. I want it to be as realistic as possible so I feel like I’m there. I guess I’m just a very visual person and the graphics and sounds give me that.  Games like COD4 and from the looks of the graphics, K2 really impress me, because I can imagine being that lead character, at least for a couple of hours in an evening, before going back to ‘normal’ life. I know graphics aren’t everything, but they are important for me, even to the point that I’m thinking of getting Uncharted simply because I am so impressed with the graphics, even though its not my usual type of game. Plus, there’s simply the joy in watching something as so well developed and as visually stunning as COD4, Uncharted, or K2, they are works of art, really spectacular.

p.s. this isn't a flame post, really honestly, it's not. please take it as my own opinion, nothing more.

i'm thinking about putting in a disclaimer at the bottom!

I'm not impressed, but graphics arn't the kind of thing that impresses me. Graphics won't impress me until we get those holographic games. Even photorealistic graphics are kinda meh to me outside of like... some sort of porn game which really isn't my bag.

I just don't see the point. Better graphics are good, more realistic graphics... not so much. Having a FPS where people look realistic and bleed to death on the ground is pretty pointless in my opinion.

There is a problem with a game if you have time to watch someone realistically bleed out, and i'd honestly say there might be something wrong with you if you like to watch photorealistic people bleed out to death. Kinda like those kids in highschool who used to like to look up real dead bodies and watch videos of real people dieing on the computer.

Luckily Killzone doesn't reach that level of realism though. Still i'd be nice to see a game look this good in another genre... with some more color.

I agree with your post entirely. I would have to consider myself a very 'visual' person aswell. It extends through into other areas of my life, my choice in movies and in literature, my style of art...even how I dress :)

Seriously though... once it gets really close to photorealistic i wouldn't be surprised if we see a sudden explosion in pornographic gaming.  I mean at that point it'd be a porn movie but customizable.  Download new models for an exorbitant amount...

I'm sure there would be a lot of lawsuits however.  People claiming companies copied them without their agreement and the like possibly hacks changing people into celebrities, or really just companies in countires that can't be reached by some countries lawyers making such characters.

The future is going to be a creepy creepy place.

Well even creepier then current.

Not to mention all the illegal stomach turning stuff you could do with it in that regard too.  Which technically wouldn't be illegal under current laws i believe... but laws would likely be changed as soon as it got photorealistic enough... then again you have ways around that considering anyone can say any model is whatever age being fictional.

Ick.  The more i think about it... the more I really don't ever want photorealistic graphics to happen.

you paint a disturbing picture of the future... i had a mental image of Manhunt combined with pron... i don't think that's the sort of world i would like to live...

seriously though, i think you're right, there will be a backlash at some point by conservative middle classes who will ban things like that and force it a long way underground. it'll still exist, but out of sight. but i also wouldn't be surprised if the backlash will also force some of the other more 'fringe'/realistic games into underground. we've already seen the start, with games like Manhunt and the media blaming violent computer games for violent acts in youths.

what happens when a game becomes too realistic?

About the realism bit; I think we're quite a ways from realistic games yet. I'm currently playing Crysis, which to everyone may seem and look like it's realistic, let me tell you: It truly is not one bit realistic! However good the meshes look and how sharp some textures (not all, trees look like Vietcong texturewise) look, the physics are plain stupid at times.
Shooting entire buildings to bits with a shotgun, felling palm trees with a couple of shots by a 9mm, cars that behave like the Wipeout vehicles and so forth.
Trust me, there's a LONG way to go yet!
I'll write a review of "the most advancede game ever" when I've finished it.

PS: Did you guys hear? Deus Ex 3 is officially underway!! Rejoice!!
