Forums - Gaming - What happens to Nintendo after Miyamoto retires?

He's 55 now and barring any serious medical conditions or something else happening to him he'll likely work for at least another 10-15 years (people passionate about their work typically work well into old age) but what happens to Nintendo after he retires?  The heart and soul of Nintendo is Miyamoto so it's hard to imagine what the company will be like without him.

They better work on Cloning?

Let's be fair though, the industry has grown through leaps and bounds, and though his imagination completely revitalized it during the industry crash, in the past 25 years and for the next 10, people will step up for that company. People have done so for others.

See Ya George.

"He did not die - He passed Away"

At least following a comedians own jokes makes his death easier.

There are many other talented developers working at Nintendo, many of whom were mentored by Miyamoto himself. Takashi Tezuka and Eiji Aonuma come to mind. It will certainly be a blow to the company though, and a significant change.

Hates Nomura.

Let's not talk about that... =(
I can't imagine a world without Miyamoto.

3DS FC: 1306 6473 7511

Nintendod Network ID: xsorenx

Add me for Pokemon, New Leaf, and Fire Emblem, Mario Kart 8.

The guys GooseGaws mentioned would still be making kickass Zelda games, so I don't think Nintendo has too much too worry about.

If Microsoft can live without Bill Gates, I'm sure Nintendo can manage somehow.

I'm guessing that they'll finally take a serious look at my resume.

I'm a mod, come to me if there's mod'n to do.

Chrizum is the best thing to happen to the internet, Period.

Serves me right for challenging his sales predictions!

Bet with dsisister44: Red Steel 2 will sell 1 million within it's first 365 days of sales.

He is awesome almost to the point of being a super hero but he did not do it all alone. The fine men and women of Nintendo have labored many years with and without his help on many projects that have gone on to become major successes in the video gaming world. Nintendo's vast success at blowing away the competition is not due to Miyamoto's work but instead their work with Miyamoto. He will live on as a legend in video gaming as an inspiration to all Nintendo personnel long after he leaves the company.   His legacy will be preserved by the minds that he helped foster on all the projects he pour his heart and soul into.

As Miyamoto grows older, we must not ask what Miyamoto can do for Nintendo but what Nintendo can do for their beloved Miyamoto as he enters his golden years.

Miyamoto is brilliant but Nintendo has grown beyond relying on his brilliance alone, he will be sorely missed but Nintendo will carry on without him.

Well said, but a short study of the History of Miyamoto sort of implies that Nintendo would probably not have existed at all (or at least as it is today) without the hiring of Miyamoto-san at a young age -- when Nintendo was still a trading card company... Nintendo of America was dead in the water until Miyamoto-san's "Donkey Kong"...   Here's a good read:
