By end of this gen the PS3 might not score the numbers Gilgamesh is claiming it will, but in lifetime sales it will.

NA & EU maybe, but not in Japan. 15m is pure fantasy.
To throw in some heated debate, I'll add the competition...
Wii
NA: 56m
EU: 48m
JP: 15m
WW: 119m
360
NA: 32m
EU: 27m
JP: 2m
WW: 61m

Ok, in a more conservative mood i'd say:
NA: 29
EU: 35
JAP: 11
Total : 75M.

11m isn't conservative... it's still unrealistic. PS3 isn't going to more than double it'd current ltd in Japan (which is just ~5m). With the slim and FFXIII in 2009, that will probably end up being it's peak year for Japan.
when is the end of this gen? When start selling the next one (Ps4)? if so, I would say 23m.
its along shot but yes. atlease 45 to 50m by yr's end.

It's currently on a 30-40k high off back to back 500k+ sellers (Yakuza 4 & Hokuto Musou) and Torne being an unexpected success. It's Q2 lineup is dreadful though (it has less new upcoming releases than Wii even), and it's going to drop for sure. Hell, it's been dropping 25% weekly the past two weeks post-Hokuto. Golden week should alleviate that a little, but but after that it's probably in trouble until Q3/Q4. PS3 will be lucky if it hits 10m ltd in Japan. 15m is pure fantasy. |
Even TheSource thinks 8 - 12 million, GT5 will do wonders for PS3 sales.
With lots of price cuts to come and I can imagine another Slim the PS3 is going to be selling really good in Japan over the next few years.

GT5Prologue undersold GT4Prologue in Japan. And it was the next gen franchise debut, with comparably more content and even got 50% of it's copies accounted for in hardware bundles. Even still, GT5 won't be near as big as FFXIII (best case) and may not even pass a million in Japan (similar to Mingol 5's substantial generational tumble, or GT/Mingol on PSP). PS3 actually may not even see another million seller in Japan, Versus and GT5 are it's best shots left, but both are somewhat questionable.
A second slim wouldn't have the same sort of impact, similar to PSP3000. PS3 hitting 12m is about as likely as Wii hitting 20m at this point. It's just not going to happen...

You say GT5 won't be a million seller in Japan? C'mon...
